REMINDER: Starting this year, Metro Government will be closed for the celebration of Juneteenth, the commemoration of the freeing of the last enslaved people in the United States on June 19, 1865, and a historic step in fulfilling the American promise of liberty for all. Since June 19 falls on a Saturday this year, Metro offices will be closed on Friday, June 18. Enjoy the holiday!
Councilman Kevin Triplett and Susan Hughes of District 15 and Councilman Pat Mulvihill of District 10 (all pictured above) visited the Swiss Village construction project at 719 Lynn Street last Friday, June 4th. They all got a close up look at the tremendous progress being made here at the site. The project is scheduled to be completed soon with a grand opening this fall. Stay tuned!
The Metro plan to move yard waste collection in the Urban Services District to every other week has been scrapped. Yard waste will continue to be collected weekly!
Recycling collection will begin a bi-weekly schedule the week of July 12.
YARD WASTE COLLECTION DATE CHANGE: Effective immediately, yard waste collection for everyone who normally gets Friday service will occur on Saturdays. This is a temporary change due to constraints on current staff. We’ll let you know in the eNews or on social media if and when that changes.

Households that currently recycle using an 18-gallon bin or their own container will receive a free 95-gallon recycling cart. Cart delivery begins June 1. (The new carts have blue lids, as a first step to move Louisville to the blue color associated with recycling in most of the country.)
If you had previously purchased a larger 95-gallon recycling cart with an orange lid, you will continue using that cart for bi-weekly recycling. If needed, you can supplement that with a store-bought container as long as it is 30-40 gallons, has handles, and has a lid. You can also purchase another 95-gallon cart. The carts are being delivered by a contracted company. The employees do not work for Metro and they are not able to answer your questions. Please refer to the website or call Metro311 if you have questions.
Learn more about recycling in the USD and please see frequently asked questions and answers about the changes at this link.
Today, Governor Andy Beshear lifted Kentucky's mask mandate and authorized businesses and venues to expand to 100% capacity.
Dr. Sarah Moyer, Louisville's Chief Health Strategist said there remains risk of exposure in people that are unvaccinated.
She said individuals that are have not been vaccinated should follow the safety measures by limiting contact with others, wearing a mask in public, and getting tested regularly.
"A return to full capacity will raise the risk of exposure to those not vaccinated yet," Dr. Moyer said. "For those individuals, I hope the lift on restrictions and mandates serves as extra motivation to get vaccinated."

While Metro Louisville’s Covid relief emergency assistance program for LG&E customers is coming to its conclusion, limited funds do remain. As a result, the Association of Community Ministries is temporarily reopening their online application portal and will process applications as long as funds allow.
Jefferson County households could be eligible for as much as $1,000 in aid if they have: 1) a past due amount on their LG&E bill as the result of an economic hardship related to Covid-19 2) those past due arrearages occurred between March 16, 2020 and March 31, 2021
In order to make completing the online application and signature capture process easier we have created a short video demonstration. We recommend viewing this before applying.

Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) will continue offering free, nutritious meals throughout the summer to anyone 18 years old and younger, district officials announced today. In addition, the district will offer food at every summer learning and enrichment site this year to support students in those programs.
Families can pick up ‘bulk meals’ – multiple breakfasts, lunches and snacks to last for several days – at more than 40 school curbside locations from 10 a.m. to 1 pm. on Thursdays throughout the summer. They can also get bulk meals at more than 20 mobile sites on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and grab a lunch daily at 11 parks and pools throughout the city.
For a complete list of sites and schedules, click here.
JCPS is also expanding its support for summer learning by offering food at every summer learning and enrichment site this year, providing meals for more than 5,000 students participating in nearly 80 camps and programs. Children do not need to be JCPS students to receive the meals.

Mayor Greg Fischer and Louisville Metro Police Chief Erika Shields has provided an update on progress on recommendations outlined earlier this year from Hillard Heintze’s independent review of the police department – and shared a new dashboard where the public can track further work. While there is much work yet to do, she said she wanted to share the new online dashboard now so that police, Metro Council and other city leaders, as well as the public, can keep track of the progress on the various recommendations.
The dashboard, which will be updated quarterly, lists the 12 key domain subject areas and depicts progress through four types of status: Completed, In Process, Planning & Development, and Under Review. Dashboard users can also click on each of the subject areas to find the specific recommendations from the report.
The new LMPD dashboard can be found at https://louisville-police.org/803/HH-Dashboard.
The full Hillard Heintze report can be found at https://louisvilleky.gov/sites/default/files/2021-01/hillard-heintze-report.pdf

With an increase of illegal activity from vandalism, vehicle thefts and items stolen from vehicles to gun shots reported. LMPD has several tips that may seem simple but very effective!
- Immediately report any suspicious person, activity (gunshots), or vehicles to (502) 574-7111 or (502) 574-TIPS. This is not just for vehicle vandalism but drug activity, home/garage vandalism, gun shots - ANY suspicious activity! Make a police report! Ask for an Officer to return your call for service! IT DOES HELP IN GETTING ADDITIONAL POLICE OFFICERS IN OUR DISTRICT!
2. Start a Block Watch! 3. Never leave anything of value in your vehicle; this includes laptops, purses, GPS devices and even loose change. 4. Always lock your vehicle doors. 5. Remove garage door openers from vehicles usually parked outside. 6. Do not leave your keys in your vehicle. Do not warm up your vehicles without you in them! 7. Do not leave the windows of you vehicle open, or partially open. 8. Try to park your vehicle in a well-lit area. 9. Consider additional lighting around your property. 10. Never leave a firearm unprotected in your vehicle

The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is accepting applications through June 30, 2021, or until designated funds are depleted on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Residents wishing to apply must schedule an appointment utilizing the automated appointment scheduler at 502/991-8391 or visit www.louisvilleky.cascheduler.com.
Applicants must be residents of Jefferson County with a household income at or below 150 percent of the federal poverty guidelines. The benefit amount awarded is based on a household’s income and primary fuel type. Benefits are paid directly to the utility vendor (i.e. LG&E).
For the Subsidy Component, residents can apply regardless of the status of their utility bills; it is not necessary to have a past-due amount.
Currently all LIHEAP offices remain closed to walk-in clients in accordance with CDC guidelines, therefore applicants will be requested to drop off all required documentations in a secured drop box at the LIHEAP office selected using the appointment system.
Note: Residents who were served during the recent LIHEAP Crisis Phase may still apply during LIHEAP Subsidy if they meet program eligibility requirements.
For more information including an income guideline chart, visit here. For a downloadable flyer, click here.

The scholarship, which launched Oct. 1, allows eligible students in the Class of 2021 to begin postsecondary studies tuition-free at any Kentucky Community and Technical College school, including Jefferson Community and Technical College, or Simmons College of Kentucky to pursue an associate degree or career credential, or take 60 hours of credit. The Evolve502 scholarship is a last dollar scholarship, meaning Evolve502 will fund the difference between federal and state financial aid and college tuition.
The application takes about five minutes to complete online at evolve502.org/scholarship. Once applications are submitted and reviewed, applicants will receive a follow-up email with next steps including completing the federal financial aid form and applying to eligible colleges.
In addition to the scholarship, Evolve502 is offering opportunity grants to support students whose families earn less than $40,000 annually. The opportunity grants are $1,000 per semester ($2,000 maximum per year) and can be used to assist in costs outside of tuition including healthcare, transportation, books and more. The grants will automatically be given to Evolve502 Scholarship recipients who meet qualifications. The deadline to apply is June 30.
