markus winkler - louisville metro council - district 17

May 7, 2021

Friday Thoughts

We began budget hearings this week, discussing requests from a number of departments including Fleet and Facilities, Internal Audit, HR, and others. Next week, we'll dive into other departments such as Corrections, the Criminal Justice Commission, and the Office of Management and Budget. Our first public hearing on the budget will be next week as well. Click here for more information or to sign up to speak for Thursday's public hearing. The link to sign up will be active from 3-4:30 on Wednesday.

We also have our next "Coffee With Your Councilman" on Tuesday at 6 p.m. featuring Lee Burchfield, Director of the Louisville Free Public Library. It should be an informative discussion on an issue important to many of you. See below for instructions on how to sign up. I hope you'll be able to join us.

In COVID news, Governor Beshear announced yesterday that on May 28th capacity limits will increase to 75% for all events with fewer than 1,000 people. The governor also lifted the mask mandate for indoor businesses if all those in attendance have been vaccinated. Both of these announcements are welcome news and serve as additional reminders of the importance of getting vaccinated. I know this has been a difficult year but am glad we are finally moving to what feels like some conclusion.

Stay safe, enjoy your weekend, and please don't hesitate to call or email if my office can help you in any way.

Planning Weekly Activity Report

As mentioned above, Metro Planning and Design Services prepares a weekly report to inform residents about new land use submittals. These include everything from landscape plans to sign permits to changes in zoning. There are four District 17 cases in the most recent report:

3133 Bushmill Park - This proposal involves a change in zoning from R-6 to UN to construct three attached residential units on .21 acres.

10641 Fischer Park Drive - This request is for a landscape application for a First Watch restaurant on 1.74 acres in the C-2 zoning district.

11106 Shady Hollow Drive - This is a minor plat request to create three lots from two.

10000 Brownsboro Road - This is a revised district development plan which would allow a patio and building addition on 1.5 acres in the C-1 zoning district.

Case managers are listed for each of these in the above attachment if you have questions or comments.

Clean Collaborative Crew - Week of April 26

The Clean Collaborative Crew was in District 17 (and surrounding areas) the week of April 26 picking up a total of 95 bags of trash, 2 tires, and 46 other items in our area alone:

  • Westport Road from Chenoweth Lane to North Hurstbourne Parkway – 30 bags, 2 tires, and 16 other items
  • Goose Creek Road from Brownsboro Road to Westport Road – 4 bags and 1 other item
  • La Grange Road from Reamers Road to North English Station Road – 7 bags and 4 other items
  • Westport Road from North Hurstbourne Parkway to La Grange Road – 22 bags and 14 other items
  • Chamberlain Lane from Brownsboro Road to Westport Road – 25 bags and 11 other items
  • Chamberlain Lane from Westport Road to Old La Grange Road – 7 bags

This initiative has made a real difference in our fight against litter. It is currently included in the FY22 recommended budget, and I will do all I can to make sure it stays there.

Brownsboro Glen Spring Garage Sale

Brownsboro Glen will hold a garage sale on Saturday, May 15 from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. This neighborhood is located just south of Brownsboro Road about half a mile east of I-265. There is also an entrance off of Chamberlain Lane.
