Hello District 5!
Happy Derby! It's that time of the year where the world focuses on what's going on in the great city of Louisville, KY! As everyone knows, this is the time of year where the city is showcased with celebrities, food, fashion, and bourbon to enjoy the festivities of horse racing.
Derby was always my mom's favorite time of the year. She would light up like a kid at Christmas knowing that she was about to have fun with her family and friends, as well as guest from out of town. She loved to entertain and love seeing the joy on the faces of all who would gather at our home for our Derby Day activities.
There is a lot of fun to be had at Derby, but have 'smart' fun being safe and please do not drink and drive. Remember, it's alright to pass the keys to someone who is responsible.

The Humana Foundation! Our Community Partners Program grant application is now live online. You can access it on our website here: Community Partners Program - The Humana Foundation. This means you can now fill out the application and submit it for review. As a reminder, the first review deadline is on May 7th and the second review deadline is on July 23rd. The funding amount for this year is $25,000-$250,000. We have changed our eligibility to focus on organizations that have been traditionally left out of funding systems. We are requiring that 51% of your Board and Executive leadership team identify as Black, Indigenous and/or people of color AND requiring that your budget be at or less than $2.5 million.

Ice and snow leaves our roads a little rough and most times resulting in potholes. Here is the information to report potholes:
- On Twitter use the hashtag #502pothole. Just include the address or intersection where the pothole is located along with the hashtag in a tweet.
- Report a pothole online, click here, select “pothole” and continue with the required information
- Contact Metro311 in one of these ways:
- Call them at 311 or 574-5000
- Download the “Louisville Metro 311” app on your smartphone and use it to report a pothole
- Email them at metro.311@louisvilleky.gov

Often the community has concerns about activities for our youth to take part in to keep them interested in positive programs that has great benefits for their future. Listed is a list of non-profit agencies that serve youth throughout the city.

The Shawnee Girls and Boys Club have immediate openings for youth ages 6-18 to assist with the JCPS hybrid schedule.
They are open Mon-Friday from 9:30-4:00pm.
Community Action Kentucky (CAP) - (Office Locations) Services include various educational courses and Job Readiness Financial Literacy courses.
KentuckianaWorks Services include high-demand job training, one-on-one career counseling, career development workshops, career search resources, access to computers, phones and faxes for job searches.
Kentucky Career Center The Kentucky Career Center offers information on unemployment benefits & claims as well as many services for job seekers.
Louisville Urban League Assists clients, primarily African Americans and individuals of low to moderate income, prepare for and find employment. Services include counseling & placement services, training & development, pre-screening & referral services and outreach programs.
Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs This site includes information about education and training benefits available to veterans through the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Veterans Express Kentucky Career Center offices have Local Veterans Employment representatives and Disabled Veteran outreach specialists to assist veterans with their employment and training needs.
Center for Accessible Living (CAL) CAL offers training on disability issues and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), ADA compliance, building and product accessibility, reasonable accommodation certification, American Sign Language interpreters, recruitment, career development, a Job Hunt Club and much more. Goodwill Industries of Kentucky Goodwill provides jobs, job training, and employment counseling for people who face barriers to finding and keeping a job, including people with disabilities, recipients of public assistance, and people with limited education or work history.
Job Corps Job Corps is a free education and training program that helps young people learn a career, earn a high school diploma or GED, and find and keep a good job. For eligible youth at least 16 years of age. Â For more information, call (800) 733-JOBS where an operator will refer you to the admissions counselor closest to where you live, and mail you an information packet.
Kentucky Office for the Blind Services include: braille instruction, orientation and mobility, assistive technology, adult education, career development, life skills, personal development
Kentucky Office of Vocational Rehabilitation Programs and services offered include counseling & guidance, vocational & other training services, interpreter & note taking services, rehabilitation technology, job placement and supported employment.
