Sidewalk progress on Six Mile Lane!

Progress photo

Pedestrians now have a safe walkway along Six Mile Lane that stretches uninterrupted between from Bardstown Road to Breckenridge Lane.

This project has been five years in the making, and we thank Engineer Steve Kurowsky of Public Works and his crew for making great progress.

Thanks to everyone who volunteered for the Zoo Clean-Up!

Zoo cleanup

From Louisville Zoo Director John Walczak:

My thanks to all the volunteers for sharing your Saturday morning to clean up the “Jim King Trail” and Bear Grass Creek. You did amazing work and your efforts are appreciated. From trimming back the honeysuckle to dragging the shopping cart out of the creek, you all did great work.

In the photo above, John Walczak spoke with Mayor Greg Fischer during the clean-up.

We will be partnering with MSD and the Zoo later in the summer to remove larger items, such as car tires, from the creek.

In the photo at left, Mayor Greg Fischer and Terry Singer worked to clear the trail. Singer is a Zoo neighbor who has volunteered to help maintain the trail since it was constructed.

If you have a different clean-up area in mind, or if you need to volunteer virtually, the annual Mayor’s Give A Day continues through April 31. Learn more.

With support from Metro United Way and community organizations throughout the city, hundreds of volunteer opportunities are available. Group and individual projects may be virtual, while others will be in-person in compliance with CDC and state COVID-19 guidelines to protect the health and safety of participants, and many will be outdoors.
