Spring is here (Even though I saw snow flakes earlier) and it is the infamous day April Fool's Day! Have fun playing your tricks on others, just be safe doing so. Along with the beautiful change in weather is the pollen increase, so for allergy suffers be careful spending your time outside.
I am happy to say that the Covid-19 numbers are down but we must remain cautious by wearing our mask, keeping a safe distance, getting tested, and if possible, get vaccinated.
Since the last news letter, the Louisville Metro Council has approved the individuals recommended by the mayor to be on the Civilian Review Board which is necessary to monitor any activities by our police department that could be harmful to our citizens. I am happy to say this is a diverse group from all walks of life and I am sure together they will have the best interest of our residents at heart.
Until next news letter, let's be safe, kind, understanding, helpful, and loving one another.
We will be in-person this summer and will follow all CDC guidelines. The primary purpose of Summerbridge Louisville is to prepare and support talented, under-resourced middle school students for greater academic success. We are a free, 6-week, full day academic enrichment program with the morning session focused on the basics: Math, Language Arts, Science and Critical Thinking Skills. We place the students in small classrooms (5-8) so that more attention can be given to their progress.
The afternoon session will include a variety of programming: dance, drama, chess, cooking, as well as collaborations with Peace Education, Young Authors Greenhouse, STEAM Exchange, and more! Our goal is to keep them engaged the entire day!
Classes are taught by college student teachers with an emphasis on small classroom learning which provides a unique learning environment; our teachers also become role models and mentors. We typically serve 50 students each summer. We prefer that students come for two summers if possible.
