The University of Louisville is conducting a study to understand immunity to COVID-19 in Louisville, either because of someone having the virus or because they are fully vaccinated. This information will help with fully reopening our community safely. To look at immunity UofL will measure antibodies to COVID-19 as well as test for a current infection.
Adults age 18 years and older are invited to answer a short questionnaire and go to a community site in Louisville for free testing with a nasal swab and a finger stick. They can take part even if they’ve received the vaccine. Participants will receive a $10 gift card from community partners after they have been tested.
If someone tests positive for COVID-19 current infection, they will need to follow-up with their healthcare provider and begin isolation. By law, we will be required to report the case to local health agencies. Testing will be done at various locations throughout Jefferson County. Taking part is voluntary, but by participating, you will help determine how to reopen our community safely!
If you are interested in being tested for COVID-19 infection and antibodies, please go to: https://bit.ly/uoflcovid

New Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) flood maps became effective February 26, 2021. The new FEMA maps removed approximately 1,400 properties from floodplain maps and added 1,100 new properties to the maps. Flood insurance requirements will take effect for properties added to the floodplain. Flood insurance is still recommended even if your property is removed from the mapped floodplain, as the flood risk is only reduced, not removed. Check with your insurance agent to determine the right amount of flood coverage needed. Note that your lender still retains the right to require flood insurance if they feel it is necessary.
If you live in an area newly affected by a flood risk map change, review your options with your insurance agent as buildings newly mapped into the floodplain may be eligible for a lower premium during the first 12 months after a map change. Your insurance agent can give you more information on how to save.
To see the new floodplain maps or check your property’s status please visit: https://www.lojic.org/lojic-online select the layers button to the right and check the boxes for floodplain layers.
For flood insurance questions, contact your insurance agent. MSD Floodplain staff can answer your questions about floodplain mapping. You may contact them at 502.540.6000 or floodpermits@louisvillemsd.org.
To elevate the voices of youth and young adults who hold marginalized positions in Louisville, researchers from the University of Louisville are working in partnership with Louisville Metro Office of Youth Development on a study that will help us to improve support for youth and young adults in Louisville. The purpose of the study is to understand youth experiences, voices, and challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic and the uncovering of systemic racism and oppression in response to the recent murders of Black Americans at the hands of police.
They are interested in the experiences of youth and young adults in Louisville between the ages of 12 and 24 who hold marginalized positions (e.g., youth and young adults of color, LGBTQIA+ youth and young adults, etc.). To participate, youth under 18 must have parental consent, which can be obtained electronically. Additionally, all participants will need access to an electronic device with a microphone and camera. (Please note: this can be a laptop or desktop computer, tablet, or cell phone; if you do not have internet access or equipment like headphones, the research team may be able to provide you with a Wi-Fi hotspot or other equipment).
Participation for this study involves filling out a brief online survey and engaging in a virtual community listening session with some of your peers. A small gift card or item will be provided as a thank you for your time and attention. Please follow this link for more information about the study and how to enroll: https://bit.ly/YCLSTUDY
You can contact the principal investigator for the study, Dr. Aishia Brown at aishia.brown@louisville.edu or 502-852-5164, if you have any questions about the study.

A new website, WhoWeLostKY.org, has launched to offer the family and friends of Kentuckians lost to Covid-19 an opportunity to memorialize their loved ones by writing and sharing stories. The site provides free, practical writing guidance and templates, as well as an active online submission option.
WhoWeLostKY.org hopes to support resiliency and connection by ensuring that those who died are not forgotten. The social isolation caused by the pandemic has changed mourning ceremonies and customs, leaving people few options beyond social media to communicate and share expressions of grief. The therapeutic benefits of writing are well known. Participating in this project can help a mourner's healing process as they access important memories.
