Friends of the Fern Creek Library, First Monday Virtual Book Club: April 5th at 7:30pm

The First Monday virtual book club will meet again on April 5 at 7:30 p.m.  Our book selection will be Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah.  This book has been adapted as a Netflix series.  If you would like to join us for an evening of sharing a great book, contact Lyn Dean at ferncreekfriends19@gmail.com.  An invitation will be sent to you with the Zoom link attached on April 5 for our meeting that evening.  This book is available on Amazon as well as other book sellers.  The winner of the March door prize was Susan Pierce.

2021 Property Assessment Meetings Scheduled

Part of Metro Council District 20 is in MLS Area 7. Businesses able to register employees for their COVID-19 Vaccine at LouVax

Businesses across Louisville are now able to register their employees for COVID-19 vaccinations at the LouVax mass vaccination site operated by the Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness (LMPHW).

The decision to open up fully to 1C personnel follows Governor Andy Beshear’s announcement last Friday that the state would transition to include individuals ages 16-59 with qualifying medical conditions and essential employees.

Employers, business owners, human resource reps, lead supervisors and managers can make registration easier for employees by submitting a roster of team members through the health department’s Essential Workers Company Signup Form. Once the form is received, a member of LMPHW’s LouVax team will then reach out to businesses to gather any additional information and get employees scheduled for appointments.

Employees that live in neighboring counties in Kentucky and Indiana but work in Louisville are eligible to get their vaccination through their employer at LouVax.

Evolve502 Scholarship allows Class of 2021 to attend college tuition-free

JCPS seniors can go to college for free through a new scholarship offered by Evolve502.

The scholarship, which launched Oct. 1, allows eligible students in the Class of 2021 to begin postsecondary studies tuition-free at any Kentucky Community and Technical College school, including Jefferson Community and Technical College, or Simmons College of Kentucky to pursue an associate degree or career credential, or take 60 hours of credit. The Evolve502 scholarship is a last dollar scholarship, meaning Evolve502 will fund the difference between federal and state financial aid and college tuition.

The application takes about five minutes to complete online at evolve502.org/scholarship. Once applications are submitted and reviewed, applicants will receive a follow-up email with next steps including completing the federal financial aid form and applying to eligible colleges.

In addition to the scholarship, Evolve502 is offering opportunity grants to support students whose families earn less than $40,000 annually. The opportunity grants are $1,000 per semester ($2,000 maximum per year) and can be used to assist in costs outside of tuition including healthcare, transportation, books and more. The grants will automatically be given to Evolve502 Scholarship recipients who meet qualifications.

Whittenberg Scholarship Applications Open

The William Tolbert Whittenberg Scholarship for Performing Arts Excellence awards young artists (ages 16-22) from the Greater Louisville region up to $10,000 to pursue advanced study in the performing arts. To be eligible for the 2021 Whittenberg Scholarship, applications must: be from the Greater Louisville Region, between the ages of 16 and 22, and plan to pursue a professional career in the performing arts.

Students who fit these criteria can visit https://fundforthearts.org/arts-impact/whittenberg/ for more information and to start an application. The deadline to apply is 11:59pm EST Friday, April 30.

KYTC Message about Clean Up Cycle

A litter abatement message from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet to Metro residents:

"KYTC contractors completed a full litter clean-up cycle on I-65 in February, shortly after the last snow event. Interstate sweeping work began earlier this month and is continuing. Additional litter cycles on all interstates within Jefferson County are expected to begin in the next several weeks."
