Wednesday, Kentucky saw it's fourth-largest total of new COVID-19 cases with 2,753. The state's five highest days of positive cases on record have all been in the past week.

Gov. Andy Beshear issued new requirements to help stop the exponential spread of COVID-19 with goals to save lives while keeping the economy open. The requirements will take effect Friday, Nov. 20 at 5 p.m., through 11:59 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 13.

New Requirements:

  • Restaurants, Bars – Closed to indoor dining; carryout and delivery encouraged; socially distanced outdoor seating
  • Private Social Gatherings – Up to eight people from a maximum of two households
  • Gyms, Fitness Centers, Pools, Indoor recreation facilities – 33% capacity limit, group classes, team practices, competitions prohibited; masks must be worn while exercising
  • Venues, Event Spaces and Theaters – Limit 25 people per room. Includes indoor weddings and funerals, but excludes in-person worship services.
  • Professional services – Office-based businesses 33% capacity of employees; all employees able to work from home must do so; all businesses that can close to the public must do so
  • Faith Institutions – Encouraged to cease in-person worship services and move to virtual services only through December 13.
  • Schools – Public and Private (K-12) cease in-person instruction. Middle and high schools remain in virtual instruction until at least Jan. 4, 2021. Elementary schools may reopen Dec. 7 if their county is not in the red zone and they follow all Healthy at School guidance.

The Governor is dedicating $40 million in CARES Act funding to help offset the financial impact on restaurants and bars. Applications are scheduled to open November 30 and close on December 18.

"Let me be clear about a few things. This is not, and will not be, a shutdown. But today we are announcing significant, but surgical and targeted steps designed to slow the spread of the virus and protect our people."
