Election Day isn’t really a day this year. Kentuckians have been voting in person since October 13 and the last day to vote is Tuesday, November 3. You won’t be able to just show up at your regular polling place that day. In fact, there are no polling locations in District 9. There are plenty of opportunities to vote but the best advice is to make a plan and get your ballot in as soon as possible. Please remember to turn your ballot over to vote on all issues.
ABSENTEE VOTING:
If you requested an absentee ballot, you can drop it off or mail it. Absentee ballots are required to be postmarked by Election Day, November 3, and received by November 6. Individuals who don’t want to run the risk of your ballot not arriving in time may put them in secure drop-off boxes, which are located at every early voting site and will be at every polling location on November 3. Ballots may also be dropped off at the Jefferson County Clerk’s Office at 701 West Ormsby Avenue, every weekday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, now through Election Day.
To make sure your absentee ballot is counted, it is very important to follow all instructions, including signature and envelope rules. Information about how to complete your absentee ballot is in this video. You’re encouraged to return your ballot as soon as possible so election officials can contact you in the event you made an error that can be corrected to make your vote count.
If you requested an absentee ballot but it did not arrive or you lost it, you can vote in-person at any in-person voting site. To check the status of your absentee ballot, you can visit https://vrsws.sos.ky.gov/vic/. If you have any questions, call the Jefferson County Clerk’s Office at 502-574-6100.
EARLY IN-PERSON VOTING:
- Today (October 29); Friday, October 30; Saturday, October 31; and Monday, November 2, from 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM each day, any registered voter can vote early. There are four sites for early voting, with the closest one to District 9 being the KFC YUM! Center downtown. I voted there last week and the process was very quick and very safe. Parking there and at every early voting site is free.
- Early voting is not absentee voting – anyone (except someone who requested an absentee ballot which arrived and they still have) can vote early for any reason.

ELECTION DAY (NOVEMBER 3) VOTING:
There will be twenty polling places on November 3, all open from 6 am to 6 pm. They include the four early voting sites referenced above and 16 other locations. Any registered voter can vote at any of them. While none of the twenty sites are in District 9, several are close by.

If you’re voting or dropping off your ballot on Election Day, November 3, TARC and TARC3 are offering Fare-Free service along regular routes, to help the community get to polling locations and vote. Passengers must adhere to COVID-19 guidelines by wearing masks and social distancing.
Fare-free service will be offered along all TARC routes—including TARC3, helping customers get to and from polling locations.

TARC will also offer a dedicated shuttle from Union Station (1000 W. Broadway) every 30 minutes (beginning at 6 AM) to the Fair & Expo Center voting location.
How to Ride Fare-Free to the Polls on Election Day- Tuesday, November 3rd:
- TARC and TARC3 will operate its regular service on all routes on Election Day.
- Fare-Free service will be available to help you get to your polling location.
- You will be able to continue to your final destination on TARC and TARC3 Fare-Free.
Election Day Information:
- Polls are open from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM local time. If you are in line at 6:00 PM, you will be allowed to vote.

Louisville continues to see substantial increases in COVID-19 cases and is currently at the “red”, “critical,” alert level. Cases remain in every zip code with higher numbers in west and south Louisville. As community spread increases, it’s particularly important to wash hands, wear face coverings, social distance, and avoid situations where that is not possible. Suggestions for a safe Halloween are here.
The color-coded classification system indicates how prevalent the virus is in a particular community and the likelihood a person in that community will be infected. A community enters the “critical” category when it has more than 25 cases per 100,000 people. Currently, Jefferson County has over 34 cases per 100,000 residents.
During an online briefing this week, Metro Health and Wellness Director, Dr. Sarah Moyer, reported that the largest increase in cases is among young people between 15 and 34 years old and the most common symptom that people are reporting is headache. “Keep in mind that if you have a new headache that you've never had before, if you have a new cough, a fever, runny nose, anything different, please consider getting COVID tested," Dr. Moyer advises.

This Sunday, November 1, marks the end of Daylight Savings Time. You’ll need to turn back clocks, and reset things like lighting timers, thermostats and security systems. It’s also a great time to check all smoke alarms.
The time change will bring more light to your morning, but now the evenings will get darker earlier. This is a perfect opportunity to look at all streetlights in your area and report outages!
Streetlight outages are reported directly to LG&E. You can report them online at https://lge-ku.com/outages/report/streetlight, or you can contact my office to report them at 574-1109 or email Bill Hollander. If you email my office, please include the nearest address and description of the issue. Repairs are made by LG&E within seven days. If the repair hasn’t occurred within seven days, please contact me, since there might be a larger electric issue to report for the light.
My office is working to track all D9 streetlight outages and get repairs made. If you report an outage over the next few weeks, please send an email to my office so we know the report has been made. Let’s see how many lights we can turn back on by the end of 2020!
One more thing. LMPD advises everyone to illuminate their property at night. Leave outside lights on, check lights regularly and replace burnt out bulbs.
