 Future Dreamers is a community-centered leadership course that focuses on developing and highlighting emerging leaders who live, work, or learn in south and southwest Louisville. Our goal is to cultivate a network of lifelong advocates and ambassadors for the region, build community social capital, and act as a pipeline to fill leadership roles in the city with members and supporters of South Louisville.
This program is for emerging leaders who want to:
- Learn more about the south end and southwest Louisville
- Build connections with others who care about South Louisville
- Grow your professional and community network
- Meet local community leaders and decision-makers
- Gain knowledge of South Louisville community assets and opportunities
- Explore and engage with the stories of South Louisville
- Build the skills necessary to address priorities in the south and southwest Louisville region
- Become lifelong advocates and ambassadors to improve quality of life in south and southwest Louisville

 Louisville Girls Leadership (LGL) is working to recruit our next cohort of students! For those unfamiliar, we are a nonprofit organization striving to help equip young people with tools that will help navigate their journey of self-development through education, advocacy, and action, enhancing their potential as leaders. The experience leaves them with critical life and leadership skills that will instill the necessary confidence to tap into their vast potential and, in turn, become a source of empowerment to make positive change in their schools and community. Established and led by students, it is modeled after Leadership Louisville with a series of sessions that give young people the opportunity to explore, discuss, and develop leadership skills. We are a program for all cis and trans girls, as well as non-binary folks who are comfortable in a space that centers the experience of girls.
Key aspects of the program:

LGL 20-21 will be entirely VIRTUAL. Students will need to have access to wireless internet (Wifi), and a laptop, tablet, or phone. However, if these tools are not accessible, staff will provide any necessary resources to participants. Lack of access will not hinder a student's acceptance.
- At minimum, LGL sessions will take place bi-weekly on Sunday's via Zoom, in addition to hosting webinars and opportunities to bond with your fellow LGL peers.

All 10th grade students interested must apply through our online application process. A cohort of 40 sophomores to the program will be accepted, with at least one sophomore represented from each public and private high school in the county. LGL strives for a recruitment plan that encourages an equitable selection process, allowing us to fill our roster with students who represent the diversity found throughout Louisville, who are able to take on the LGL time commitment, and who have an enthusiastic connection to our mission.

The IRS has determined that there are thousands of individuals in Jefferson County who are eligible for the IRS Economic Impact Payment (stimulus payment) but who have not yet received this payment. The deadline tax “non-filers” to apply for the payment is October 15th!
The IRS has provided data on how many non-filer taxpayers in the following Jefferson County ZIP codes recently received IRS letters informing them that, based on IRS data, they may be eligible for the payments. Below are the numbers of residents who have not claimed their stimulus funding from District 12 zip codes:

 The annual Louisville Earth Walk is going city-wide this year out of respect for everyone’s safety during the CV-19 crisis. While we will not gather in one place at one time on Saturday, October 24th, everyone is invited to participate - from all across our city. Everyone is invited to join from wherever they are in support of a vision where every neighborhood has safe and clean water, air, and soil.
This year there are two exciting registration options: The 5K Walk option invites participants to get in their walk anytime on October 24 on their own favorite paths and routes or wherever.  October is Adopt A Shelter Dog Month. Adoption fees are waived for adult dogs, 40 lbs. and up, and you’ll receive a free gift for your new, furry companion.
 Adopt pretty lady Ava, an approximately 2-year-old English/American Bulldog mix that weighs 60lbs. Ava is a happy-go-lucky, very friendly and sweet dog who loves to be the center of attention. Ava appears to have some hearing loss, so we’re recommending a child-free forever home. Ava can be tested with other dogs or cats, by request at Animal House Adoption Center (3516 Newburg Road). Olmsted Parks October Challenge (Walk, Run, Bike, Hike) starts SUNDAY, OCTOBER 11
Shake COVID-19 cabin fever by walking, running, biking, or hiking in the Olmsted Parks October Challenge, presented by BB&T/Truist and Olmsted Parks Conservancy.

Eviction Prevention COVID-19 Relief Fund aims to aid low-to-moderate income households that are delinquent on rent payments as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The program will pay for up to three months of rent for households facing COVID-related delinquencies.
Individual households may begin applying for rental assistance through the Office of Resilience and Community Services immediately. To be eligible, households must earn at or below 60 percent of the area median income ($45,840 annually for a family of four) and have had their income impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Beginning July 1, Landlords may apply for assistance on behalf of their tenants to the Office of Housing. To be eligible, the landlord must:
- Be currently registered on the Rental Registry.
- Have no outstanding code violations for the property for which rent is being paid.
- Waive all late fees, fines, and penalties.
- Forgo evictions for assisted tenants for 60 days after assistance is provided.
- Provide pre-COVID-19 rent rolls to document delinquency rates before and after the pandemic.
Funding will be prioritized for affordable housing units (households at or below 60% of area median income) or properties with more than 50% of their units in the Housing Choice Vouchers Program.
Landlords will be required to submit the following documentation:
- Information about the property, including its tax ID number, ownership and delinquency rates
- W-9
- An eviction prevention application worksheet
- Certification of non-payment of rent signed by each tenant for whom assistance is requested
- Copy of each tenant’s ledger for whom you are claiming to be reimbursed for delinquencies
- Copy of Recorded LURA or Recorded Deed Restriction
- Accounts Receivable Report for period January 1, 2020 to current
- Copy of Final 8609 (if a Low-Income Housing Tax Credit project)
- Executed and Notarized Landlord Tenant Rental Assistance Certification

Louisville Metro Office of Resilience and Community Services joins with Community Action Agencies across the state to begin accepting applications for the new Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) Summer Cooling Program. Designed to help offset the cost of higher electric bills due to rising temperatures, the program is the network’s latest resource to help families during the COVID-19 public health crisis. Applications will be accepted now through October 31, 2020, or until funds are depleted.
The LIHEAP Summer Cooling Program is separated into two components, Subsidy and Crisis, to assist with electric cost. Eligible households can apply for one or both components and participation in prior LIHEAP programs will not affect a household’s eligibility. Households must meet eligibility requirements, with a household income at or below 60% of the Kentucky median income.
The Subsidy component provides households one-time benefit ranging from $50 to $200 depending on income levels and housing category. The Crisis component is available to eligible households who demonstrate a home energy crisis situation. Crisis benefits will cover the minimum needed to alleviate the crisis not to exceed $600. Households can reapply each time they experience a crisis situation until they reached their maximum benefit.
Modified service delivery for LIHEAP (Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program) All six LIHEAP offices remain closed for walk-in clients in an effort to help stem the spread of COVID-19. Residents can still apply for LIHEAP by utilizing secure drop boxes in front of seven locations.
Jefferson County residents wishing to apply must schedule an appointment utilizing the automated appointment system. Appointments can be scheduled by phone by calling 502-991-8391 or online at louisvilleky.cascheduler.com. The toll-free service is currently open and is available twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.
LIHEAP required documentation, along with the downloadable LIHEAP Family Profile form and the Remote Processing form, should be dropped off at the LIHEAP site you select, on the day of your appointment.

Who should get tested for COVID-19?

Anyone who has symptoms: fever, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, chills, muscle pain, headache, new loss of taste or smell, vomiting or diarrhea, sore throat, congestion or runny nose. Contact your healthcare provider about scheduling a test.

Testing for people who do not have symptoms (asymptomatic) including:
- Persons without symptoms who have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive. Consider getting tested during your 14 day quarantine if you do not develop symptoms.
- Healthcare facility workers, workers in congregate living settings, and first responders without symptoms.
- Residents in long-term care facilities or other congregate living settings, including prisons and shelters, without symptoms
- People without symptoms who have been in large gatherings where social distancing was difficult and you do not know if you were in close contact with a positive case.
- For all testing please follow instructions to call ahead or pre-register for the testing site.
