Friday Thoughts

I would be remiss if I didn't begin by remembering the thousands of people lost in the terrible events of September 11, 2001. Victims that day included men, women, children, senior adults, and people from so many different races, religions, and walks of life. Hundreds of firefighters, police officers, and other first responders also perished, sacrificing themselves on behalf of fellow citizens. We lost a microcosm of America that day. I hope we continue honoring them by taking inspiration from the courage, sacrifice, and collective spirit showed by so many that day and the days that followed.

I want to take a moment also to commend the many police officers tasked with working near Churchill Downs (and beyond) this past weekend. Command staff had a plan in place, but implementing that in the midst of evolving situations is certainly not easy. I am grateful to the men and women of the LMPD for an essentially peaceful weekend.

Finally, many of you have contacted me with questions regarding voting this November. I know some of you are very anxious about your vote being counted. I included the most recent information in my eNewsletter two weeks ago and will share any update as soon as possible.
