Today I joined six of my colleagues in co-sponsoring a resolution (R-110-20) that seeks a vote of no-confidence in the leadership of Mayor Fischer and requests his resignation from office. The resolution, which is sponsored by Minority Caucus Chair Kevin Kramer (R-11), Minority Caucus Vice-Chair Scott Reed (R-16), Councilwoman Marilyn Parker (R-18), Councilman Anthony Piagentini (R-19), Councilman Stuart Benson (R-20), Councilman Robin Engel (R-22) and Councilman James Peden (R-23), was filed today with the Louisville Metro Council Clerk and will receive its first reading at the August 20, 2020 Meeting of the Louisville Metro Council.
“It is imperative that we have a change in leadership for our city. The increase in violent crimes as well as the destruction of our city has frightened the people of this community. The many dedicated officers who protect us every day deserve a leader that supports the rule of law. We need a Mayor who supports transparency and accountability and one who will stop turning a blind eye to rampant lawlessness and the destruction of property. ”

We have sought answers through cooperative means but have been denied access to information and people who have been out front working to implement the Mayor’s policies. With little hope of seeing change from this administration, I feel there is nothing left that can be done, except seek the Mayor’s resignation”

“We have heard the cries of our citizens. They are demanding more transparency about who made what decisions and why related to these troubling events. We have joined together to seek answers, and instead we have been stonewalled by a Mayor who seems unwilling to admit mistakes, acknowledge failures and demand the return of order to a community that has been torn apart by mistrust, uncontrolled rises in violent crime as well as a lack of a clear vision by a Mayor who doesn’t seem to hear the pleas of the community.”

The resolution (R-110-20), would not remove Mayor Greg Fischer from office, but will allow each member of the Louisville Metro Council the opportunity to express their position on the decisions of this administration as well as the direction our city is headed. The resolution points out the failure of Mayor Fischer to live up to promises of transparency and accountability as well as the escalation of homicides since 2016 with our current year projected to break recorded murder rates for the city. The resolution also points out the many scandals that have occurred due to the actions of Mayoral appointees such as exploited children and employees through the Explorer Program, TARC and other departments within Louisville Metro Government.
