LMPD MetroSwap Zones

SwapZone

Recently, there was an event in the news where someone was killed who might have been meeting to complete a transaction from an online marketplace such as Craigslist, Ebay, Facebook, Nextdoor, ect.

If you are buying or selling items online, I want to remind you of our designated LMPD MetroSwap Zone Sites.

These areas are specifically set up for people to make buying and selling transactions.  They are marked parking spaces located outside some of our LMPD Divisions, including the 7th Division at the Central Government Center located at 7201 Outer Loop.  These areas are under 24 hour video surveillance with LMPD close by so they can quickly respond if needed.

Be safe!

Tips for using MetroSwap Zones:

  • Agree to meet the person ONLY at a MetroSwap station.
  • Meet only during daylight hours.
  • Tell Someone you trust where you are meeting and at what time.
  • Meet in the parking lot. There will be two (2) designated parking spots at each location for use.
  • Make the interaction brief and to the point.

Locations:
 LMPD 2nd Division – 3419 Bohne Avenue
 LMPD 3rd Division – 7219 Dixie Highway
 LMPD 7th Division – 7201 Outer Loop
 LMPD 8th Division – 200 Juneau Drive

Crime is rampant in Louisville right now. The police are stretched way too thin, understaffed, overworked and feel abandoned by the Mayor.  2020 is shaping up to be a record year for crime in Louisville because Mayor Fischer has allowed our streets to be taken over.

Carjackings are up 400% and are occurring all over Jefferson County.  In response the US Attorney’s Office announced a federal task force to combat carjackings in Louisville.  Please be aware of your surroundings.

Tips to avoid carjackings:

  • Always have your mobile phone handy — and charged.
  • Avoid being alone in your vehicle in certain areas, such as high crime neighborhoods, isolated roads and intersections and desolate areas of parking lots.
  • Be aware of your surroundings. Pay special attention to people who seem to be lurking or cars that suspiciously follow you into driveways. Call 911 and use your key fob or other car alarm if you feel a threat.
  • Be wary of how carjackers lure victims. These include bumping your car, pretending to be stranded motorists or flashing their lights as if there were something wrong with your car. In each of these scenarios, you might be tempted to pull over -- only to have your car taken. Stay inside with the windows shut and the door locked and, if you feel a threat, drive to the nearest police or fire station.
  • Practice safe parking. Stick to well-lit areas. If you have any doubts about where you parked after the fact, find a security guard to accompany you to your vehicle.
  • Don't sit in your car with the door unlocked or the windows rolled down.
  • Don’t stop at isolated ATMs, which might put you and your bank accounts as well as your car in danger.

Lastly, always remember to lock your doors and remove all valuables form your car, including firearms. Thieves often just try door handles to see if a car is unlocked.  Locking your car it is the #1 thing you can do to prevent you from becoming a victim.
