Over the last few years I have hosted a junk drop-off and recycling event that included shredding, electronics recycling, large item drop-off as well as a prescription drug take-back with LMPD. These events have been extremely popular each year with hundreds of people participating.
We have recycled literally tons of old electronics, and safely disposed of hundreds of pounds of prescription drugs. This also provides people an opportunity to clean-out their homes and prevented some who may otherwise dump things likes tires or old furniture illegally. I originally scheduled the event for this summer and unfortunately it had to be cancelled due to COVID-19 related concerns.
I fully intend to hold the junk drop-off as soon as it is realistically safe for both the workers and the general public to attend. My office has reached out to Metro Public Works to begin the process of planning for this event, hopefully later this fall. Please keep in mind that public health and safety must be a priority and could impact the timing of rescheduling the event.
When we are able to safely proceed, I will announce it in my regular e-newsletter and also send a postcard to all District 18 residents notifying you of all the details. Thanks for your understanding as we work together trying to balance keeping people safe while continuing to re-open.
