Saturday Protests

Many of you have heard by now that Louisville will be the site of additional protests this weekend. The primary march is expected to take place between noon and 5 p.m. tomorrow, running roughly from Baxter Square Park to the area near City Hall at 6th and Jefferson. Some have inquired about the city's ability to prevent this protest altogether. Because this activity is protected free speech, the city's options are limited in that regard.

I have had conversations this week with the mayor and LMPD leadership to share my apprehension and better understand plans to mitigate the potential for negative outcomes. I am cautiously optimistic that the steps taken by the administration (early discussions with protestors, managing the march route, keeping counter protestors separate, etc.) will help bring about a peaceful and safe weekend for all. Though we do not anticipate any major problems, it is probably appropriate to avoid this area during those times.

TARC Service Adjustments

TARC

TARC recently announced service adjustments that will have an impact on some District 17 residents. The 49X (Westport Road Express) and 64X (Fincastle/Forest Springs Express) routes will be discontinued beginning August 9. According to TARC, half of its current routes are used by only 3% of its riders. This has led to some routes costing TARC nearly $60 per rider, precipitating the announced changes. TARC will continue monitoring ridership and any potential impact on its customers. Click here for more details.
