FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Public Safety Committee invites LMPD Chief Conrad to discuss increase in violence during COVID 19

Special virtual meeting set for Wednesday, April 29th at 3:30pm

Louisville – Louisville Metro Police Chief Steve Conrad will testify before the Metro Council’s Public Safety Committee on Wednesday, April 29th regarding policing and increased violence during the COVID 19 crisis.

“As the Metro Council begins its review of the financial impact of COVID 19, we must also keep an eye on public safety during this time,” says Councilwoman Jessica Green (D-1) who chairs the committee. “The city has seen an uptick in violence recently and it is important the committee stays on top of trends affecting the safety of the people we serve.”

The Councilwoman has also invited Jefferson Circuit Court Judge Brian Edwards to provide an update on the criminal court system, specifically in custody defendants, bond releases, and hearings

This special meeting will be held as a video teleconference pursuant to KRS 61.826 and Senate Bill 150. Members have the option of participating virtually from remote locations, or in person from the Metro Council Chambers on the third floor of Historic City Hall, 601 West Jefferson Street.

In collaboration with the President’s Office, the City Hall entrance on 6th Street is locked with limited building access. A sign is posted on the door to call the on-duty security guard desk for approved entry.

As a result of, and in accordance with, this directive, the Louisville Metro Council’s Committee meetings will be open to the public through remote access only.

The public may watch the proceedings live on Metro TV, Spectrum Cable Channel 184 or on UVERSE at Channel 99. Proceedings may also be streamed live from the Metro Council Clerk’s Archived Media page at http://louisville.granicus.com/ViewPublisher.php?view_id=2.
