New Guidance on Wearing Face Masks

The CDC has issued new guidance on wearing face masks to help slow the spread of COVID-19.

"Cloth face coverings should— fit snugly but comfortably against the side of the face
be secured with ties or ear loops
include multiple layers of fabric
allow for breathing without restriction
be able to be laundered and machine dried without damage or change to shape

One Louisville COVID-19 Response Fund

LIHEAP

Income-eligible residents of Louisville now have more time to apply for funding to help with energy bills, thanks to an extension of the deadline for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). The former deadline is pushed back to Thursday, April 30. LIHEAP Crisis operates on a first-come, first-served basis until funds are exhausted or through April 30, 2020, whichever comes first. Modified service delivery for LIHEAP (Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program) Since March 18, all six LIHEAP offices have been closed for walk-in clients in an effort to help stem the spread of COVID-19. Residents can still apply for LIHEAP by mail or utilizing Drop Boxes in front of the six LIHEAP offices. LIHEAP required documentation, along with the downloadable LIHEAP Family Profile form and the Remote Processing form, should be mailed as soon as possible and postmarked no later than April 30, 2020 to the central LIHEAP office at the following address: Louisville Metro Office of Resilience and Community Services offices at the following address: The Edison Center, Attn: LIHEAP, 701 W. Ormsby, Suite 201, Louisville, KY 40203. LIHEAP paperwork can also be dropped off at secure Drop Box sites in the front lobby of each of the six processing sites. A copy of the required documentation is advisable but if original information is mailed, the LIHEAP staff will return to the applicant by mail. LIHEAP applications will be processed by LIHEAP staff and mailed back to the recipient. Residents can also call Metro United Way’s 2-1-1 help referral service.

Red Cross blood drive on Wednesday and Thursday

Mayor Fischer again reminded the community about the need to donate blood. Although local blood supplies are holding steady, there is still a constant need.

“During this uncertain time, we encourage individuals to keep scheduled blood donation appointments and to make new blood donation appointments for the weeks ahead to ensure a stable supply throughout this pandemic,” the Mayor said.

The American Red Cross is conducting a blood drive on Wednesday and Thursday at the KFC Yum! Center downtown, and there are still some slots available. You must make an appointment first; go to www.redcrossblood.org and enter sponsor the keyword KFCYUM. No walk-ins will be allowed.

Louisville Water Company has created a jingle and video that will help remind kids and adults of the proper way to wash hands. “Hand Washin Germ Stoppin’” features Tapper, Louisville Water’s mascot and a 20-second song that promotes the importance of soap, water, and a good scrub. Louisville Water’s product, Louisville pure tap® is essential for overall health and hand washing, but it’s especially critical in minimizing the spread of the Coronavirus.

Councilman Triplett is participating in the discounted recycle cart program with Solid Waste. District 15 residents benefit! The 95-gallon and 65-gallon recycling carts are available for District 15 residents for only $25 -- this is a 50% discount. Due to the change in KY tax code, we must now charge sales tax on the value of the item - therefore the total for the cart is $28 - $25 for the cart and $3.00 for tax.
