I-Move Kentucky

imove

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) is working on a project aimed at improving safety and relieving congestion along three heavily traveled corridors in the Louisville area: I-71, I-265, and I-64. I-Move Kentucky as the project is called seeks to address several of the state's most significant transportation needs based on the 2018 Strategic Highway Investment Formula for Tomorrow (SHIFT) rankings. All four parts of the project described below are scheduled to be worked on simultaneously and completed by the end of 2023.

I-265 Widening - this is the top priority statewide per the SHIFT ranking. I-265 will be widened to the center (staying within existing KYTC right-of-way) to add a 12-foot lane of traffic in each direction. This will create a total of six lanes between Taylorsville Road and I-71 for the almost 90,000 vehicles a day that travel this roadway.

I-71/I-265 Interchange Improvements - a collector-distributor lane (which allows vehicles to navigate ramps separate from mainline traffic) will be created on southbound I-71 to improve safety and ease ramp movements to and from I-265. This part of the project has a mandatory completion date of December 31, 2020.

I-71 Widening - like the Gene Snyder Expressway, this interstate will be widened to include a 12-foot lane of traffic in each direction creating a total of six lanes between I-265 and KY 329 (the Crestwood/Pewee Valley exit). Widening will be mixed between the center and outside of existing lanes, but will stay within KYTC's current right-of-way footprint.

I-64/I-265 Interchange Improvements - this interchange will be reconstructed to improve safety and ease the flow of traffic for the 94,000 vehicles per day that use it. The work will include areas on I-64 from Blankenbaker Parkway to English Station Road and on I-265 from Pope Lick Road to the U.S. 60 (Shelbyville Road) interchange.

KY 22 - Goose Creek Road Project Update

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has advised that the project at the intersection of Goose Creek Road and KY 22 (Brownsboro Road) is now scheduled to begin next month. This project will include the addition of a left-turn on northbound Goose Creek Road as well as a dual left and right turn lane on KY 22. Lane closures are likely throughout the project. Signs and flagging operators will direct drivers through the work zone.

Cafe LOUIE

Cafe LOUIE

Café LOUIE is back in 2020 in a continuing effort to connect citizens with their elected local and state representatives. These gatherings occur from 9:00-10:00 a.m. each Saturday from January 11 through March 21. Elected officials are given a few minutes to offer prepared remarks before taking a few questions submitted by attendees. I plan on attending the January 18 event at the Middletown Library as well as the March 14 event at the Northeast Regional Library. I hope to see you there!

Suburban City/Neighborhood Meetings

Being accessible to those I represent is important to me. One way to do that is through attendance at suburban city and neighborhood association meetings. If you would like me to join you at an upcoming meeting, please let me know. I would be happy to share updates on metro government and answer any questions you or your neighbors might have.

Happy Holidays

Happy Holidays to you and your family! This holiday season, Metro Council offices will be closed on Wednesday, December 25 and Wednesday, January 1.
