Begin Thanksgiving with the "Thanksgiving Day Run"

This year marks the 40th year for a true local tradition. Set in the awesome fall splendor of Iroquois Park, this 5-mile race is THE way for Louisvillians to prep for their Turkey Day at 9 a.m..

NEW THIS YEAR:

• Each participant will receive a commemorative Finisher's Medal marking both the race and its 40th year.
• We will be drawing for TWO Grand Prizes of $400 after the race (you must be present to win).
• Age group winners will receive their awards on race day

Packet Pickup will be held on November 26 and 27 at Swag's Sport Shoes south end location. Race day packet pickup will also be available.

Course

The course starts near the playground and goes up the hill to the top of the park, and back. Race has one water stop, and splits will be called.

Kentucky Shakespeare at Southwest Regional Library - December 14th

The Louisville Free Public Library and Kentucky Shakespeare are once again partnering to bring free, family-friendly two-actor performances of Shakespeare classics to the Library. This year, two actors will bring Shakespeare’s most famous play to life, as Hamlet uncovers a web of deceit and corruption in his quest to avenge his father’s death. The audience will engage with profes­sional actors from Kentucky Shakespeare in this fast-paced, one-hour production that highlights self-worth, relationship dynamics, the consequences of acting on vengeance, and finding help in times of isolation and vulnerability. MSD Holiday Tips - How to Avoid Clogged Pipes

Whether you are panfrying the morning bacon or deep frying the holiday bird, you always have leftover fat, oil or grease. The slippery mess should never be poured into a sink, toilet or storm drain where it can lead to plumbing or sewer problems and foul local waterways. If you fry it up in a fryer Louisville Metro’s full-service recycling centers accept household cooking oil left over from deep frying. It’s free and easy for residents of Jefferson County.   You should first let the oil cool, strain out food particles and poor the oil into a container that has a lid. Then take it to the nearest full-service recycling center and hand it to a staff member. Louisville Metro has partnered with a private firm to collect the oil, which they recycle into biodiesel fuel. If you fry it up in a pan Fat and grease left over from routine pan frying can be disposed of with other residential garbage if handled properly. Just pour the grease into a container that has a lid, let it cool, and place it in the trash. That keeps it out of local waterways and sewers. Using your sink’s garbage disposal or a grease-cutting detergent does not keep the gunk out of the plumbing and sewer system. Both merely break the solid material into smaller pieces that still flow down the drain and then build up on pipes. That eventually leads to troublesome backups and costly repairs. FREE Leave Disposal thru November 30

Mowing over leaves to mulch them back into your lawn is a great option for reducing waste and it adds nutrients back into your soil. Residents with yard waste collection can also set them out in paper bags or containers. And all Louisville Metro residents will have the option to dispose of them for free at one of three drop-off sites beginning November 5. Metro Public Works is offering a free leaf drop-off service November 5 through November 30. Drop-off will not be available on November 28 and 29 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. Only loose leaves will be accepted. Containers used to bring leaves to the drop-off sites must be disposed of off-site by residents. 91.010 SANITARY DISPOSAL OF ANIMAL FECES REQUIRED. It shall be unlawful for any owner or person in charge of a domestic animal or other four-footed mammal, poultry or other fowl to permit such animal to be on school grounds, metro parks or other public property, or on any private property other than that of the owner or person in charge or control of such animal without the permission of the owner of said property, or on any streets, sidewalks, highways, or rights-of-way of the Metro Government other than duly designated bridle paths, unless the owner or person in charge of such animals: Has, in his or her possession, a suitable device for the picking up, collection and proper sanitary disposal of the animal feces or manure. Immediately removes all feces deposited by such animal(s) and disposes of same in a sanitary manner.
