Limited Library Services to return to Fern Creek Regular Storytime, Book club and Book Exchange Announced

Books

Metro Councilmembers, representatives from the Friends of the Fern Creek Library and the Fern Creek Chamber of Commerce held as press conference to announce the start of a monthly “Fern Creek Library Day”.

Fern Creek Library Day will be hosted at the headquarters of the Fern Creek Chamber of Commerce on the first Thursday of each Month. Activities offered on each library day will include a toddler story hour, preschool story hour as well as a book club and book exchange.

Fern Creek Library Day will be led by the Friends of the Fern Creek Library, a non-profit volunteer organization that has existed since approximately 2006 with the purpose of supporting library services in southeastern Jefferson County. Fern Creek Library Day will be held on the first Thursday of each month, starting November 7, 2019.

Starting in 2018 Councilmembers Robin Engel (District 22), Stuart Benson (District 20) and James Peden (District 23) have sought funding for a Metro owned facility. Last year funding was allocated to support a feasibility study for a variety of services in the southeastern Jefferson County. As a result of the closure of the library, members of the Metro Council have allocated $125,000 towards the purchase, planning and eventual construction of a new Library in the area. It is anticipated that the cost for the construction of a new branch would be approximately $3 million.

Louisville residents are invited to bring unneeded documents to be shredded and prescription drugs to be disposed of at a FREE event on November 2, 2019. The paper shredding and drug toss event is a joint operation of Louisville Metro Public Works and Louisville Metro Police. Businesses may not participate in this event. All paper materials will be shredded on site and recycled. Shredding services are donated by the Louisville Branch of Shred-It Louisville.

The drug toss is a drive-through event. In advance, black out all personal information on all medication containers that will be tossed. For safety reasons, sharp items, needles, lances, cosmetics, personal care or hygiene items cannot be accepted.
