Councilwoman Sexton Smith appropriated Neighborhood Development Funds to support the musical "Rumpelstiltskin" performed by Commonwealth Theatre at elementary schools in Metro District 4.
Mera Corlett put a new spin on this old classic by making the story about a young woman pursuing her vision to open a textile mill whilst her father preferred she simply turn the spinning wheel like all the other women.
The "magic" happened as she slept. The bales of straw were spun into gold as the king demanded.
The king wanted her to marry him and she convinced him they should be business partners instead.
She continued to negotiate with Rumpelstiltskin throughout the week until she finally prevailed.
The daughter of the flour mill owner proved that a little girl can create a vision, build a textile mill, create jobs with living wages and improve her community.
Rumpelstiltskin traveled around District 4 and stopped by Lincoln Performing Arts School. More murals - more fun!
LPAS Principal Suzanne French is always in the halls spreading her goodwill and providing great leadership.
Principal Kimberly Marshall at Roosevelt Perry Elementary joined the students for Halloween dress-up day to welcome "Rumpelstiltskin."
