Metro Animal Services' Pets of the Week: Mickey and Mouse and Tricia

Mickey and Mouse

MICKEY AND MOUSE

When it comes to kittens, two definitely is better than one! Why? They’ll always have a playmate, training is easier because they’re copycats and you’ll be saving two lives! Right now, Kitten adoptions are BOGO at Animal House. Adopt 4-month-old, sibling duo Mickey and Mouse - or any two kittens, for a $100 donation to the Pay It Forward program. Spay/Neuter, microchip & vaccinations are included! Visit Animal House, located at 3516 Newburg Road, Tuesday-Sunday from 12-6pm. For more info, call 502-473-PETS.

Tricia the dog

TRICIA, FEMALE DOG

Tricia is a spunky, very happy Beagle-Blue Heeler mix would a great companion for a retiree or someone who works from home. Tricia is a top-notch snuggler that loves to burrow under the covers to sleep with you. She's always ready for a walk or playing fetch with her stuffed toys. The easy-going sweetheart gets along with cats and dogs, so she wouldn’t mind a fur sibling. Plus, she has excellent manners and she’s house trained! Tricia is approximately 3-years-old and weighs about 25lbs. Her adoption fee is waived thanks to the Pay It Forward Program. Tricia’s already spayed, microchipped and vaccinated. To meet or adopt Tricia, visit the LMAS Shelter (3705 Manslick Rd.) Monday through Friday from 12-6pm. Questions? Email animalservicesadoption@louisvilleky.gov, or call 502-475-6126.

It is Time to Drain Your Pool!

Drain Your Pool 4

Even with Labor Day behind us, warm weather is continuing, and those who haven’t drained their pool can help maintain #safecleanwaterways with just a few simple tips.

Please follow these guidelines when draining a swimming pool

•Do not drain your pool during or up to 48 hours after a rain event.

• Dechlorinate your swimming pool water before draining it. The pool should sit at least 10 days after chemical treatment before draining any water.

• Test the pool water to ensure that it is essentially chlorine-free before draining (about 0.1 parts per million total chlorine). Bubbling, cascading, or other forms of aeration will help to remove chlorine from water.

• The pool’s pH should be in a normal range of 6 to 8 before draining.

• Drain to a grassy area of the yard if it is large enough to absorb the water, or into a sanitary sewer cleanout, if one is available on the property.

• Discharge water slowly, at no more than 30 gallons per minute, to prevent soil erosion, flooding, or damage to adjacent properties, including backups into homes and businesses.

For sewer-related issues, contact our Customer Relations Department 24/7/265 @ 502.540.6000 CustomerRelations@LouisvilleMSD.org

The New Dixie Update

The $35 Million Question: When Will it Be Done?
The $35 million New Dixie Highway project is on schedule and construction will be complete by the end of this year. That means that the medians, sidewalks, and crosswalks will be in place, the bus stations will be installed, and all the lanes will be open.
December is not usually the best time for final surfacing, final striping and landscaping, so that work is currently slated for Spring 2020. That kind of work will not be as disruptive to drivers, however. The New Dixie Highway Project broke ground in December of 2017.

“We really appreciate everyone’s patience as we work to make The New Dixie Highway – a safer, more attractive and efficient roadway,” said John Callihan, project manager. “We are nearing the finish line and soon we will be able to enjoy the new roadway.”
