It’s officially fall, and while the leaves changing color is beautiful, once they fall to the ground and start covering catch basins, they present a problem during heavy rain events. We encourage residents to help us keep catch basins clear and let us know when there’s a problem.
Notice of Public Hearing
The Louisville Metro Air Pollution Control Board will hold a public hearing on an Agreed Board Order with Hexion Inc. Hexion is alleged to have violated District Regulations 1.05 (Compliance with Emission Standards and Maintenance Requirements), 2.16 (Title V Operating Permits), and 5.15 (Chemical Accident Prevention Provisions) at the facility located at 6200 Camp Ground Road in Jefferson County, Kentucky.
Written comments from the public will be accepted by the Board, Rachael Hamilton, Secretary-Treasurer, 701 W. Ormsby Ave. Suite 303, Louisville, KY 40203, until 5:00 p.m. October 15, 2019. Written comments will also be accepted electronically until the same deadline at the e-mail address “airorders@louisvilleky.gov." Oral comments will be accepted at the public hearing on October 16, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. in the Board Room, 701 W. Ormsby Ave., Louisville.

Notice of Action on a Federally Enforceable District Origin Operating Permit (FEDOOP)
The Louisville Metro Air Pollution Control District (District) proposes to renew a FEDOOP operating permit for Ernst Concrete Kentucky, LLC (ready mix concrete plant), 4121 Algonquin Parkway, Louisville, KY 40211 in accordance with Regulation 2.17. This is a standard FEDOOP renewal. The 30-day public comment period starts on September 25, 2019, and ends on October 25, 2019. A public hearing may be scheduled if the District determines that there are germane, unresolved issues or substantial public interest, in accordance with Regulation 2.07.

The Zero Hunger Mobile Market is a single-aisle grocery store on wheels. The Mobile Market visits neighborhoods that have limited or no access to fresh fruits, vegetables, and other nutritious foods.
Customers can board the vehicle to shop for fresh produce and staple food items, and pay by debit card, credit card, or EBT. No cash is accepted or stored within the Mobile Market.

Property Tax time will soon be here and it is time to plan on how to pay those taxes if you are not currently being escrowed by a mortgage lender. Property Tax bills will be mailed to homeowners on November 1, 2019. If you know now that there will be a financial hardship created in paying that tax bill, there is help available. If you act BEFORE the end of November you may even take advantage of a 2% discount on the bill. LHOME, a mission-driven Community Development Loan Fund has limited funds available to assist in paying current and/or delinquent tax bills. We are located at Taylor and Berry Blvds In Louisville and exist to provide access to capital to areas of our community that have been financially underserved.
Our property tax loan product can not only save you 2% if applied before the end of November, it is available at a very low interest rate and avoids all late charges and penalties. Act now and save! If you apply during September or October you can be ready to take advantage of the discount and not worry about the bill when it arrives in November. We spread the repayment over 12 to 24 months. Project Pickup Large Item (Junk) collection happens three times each year in Louisville's Urban Services District. It's a great way to get rid of accumulated stuff that doesn't fit in the weekly trash or recycling. The poster above is a reminder of what is and is not picked up by this service.
Another option
Any Jefferson County resident may drop off up to three large household items at the Waste Reduction Center, 636 Meriwether Avenue for FREE year round during regular business hours. Larger amounts are subject to a fee schedule.

 Can you spot the plastic trash from residential yard waste collection?
 Did you know Styrofoam is NOT accepted in Louisville's curbside or drop-off recycling? Unfortunately, Styrofoam to-go cups and containers should go in the trash. Try to avoid those single-use products! Large Styrofoam packaging inserts can be recycled locally, but only at Foam Fabricators in New Albany, IN during their business hours - they must be clean and free of tape and stickers. But if you're trying to dispose of Styrofoam at the curb, place in your trash container. Of course, reuse it first if you can! Learn more at Louisvilleky.gov/recycling.

If you do not have residential curbside recycling service or if you have too much for your bin/cart, we have free recycling drop-off locations around the county for your convenience. Some are staffed by Public Works employees to help with drop-off. Others are self-serve. Here's an interactive map of the drop-off locations.
What you can drop off:

Do’s and don’ts
- Recyclable items at self-service locations may be mixed.
- They should be loose in the dumpster, not in bags.
- Items at full-service locations must be separated by material. Staff members will help unload.

No dumping. Take up to three large items to the Waste Reduction Center free of charge.
- No liquids/paints/oils/etc. in the Self-Service dumpsters.
- Flatten cardboard to save space in the dumpster.
If the dumpster is full, contact Metro311. The crews empty them on a schedule based on how long it typically takes to fill, but sometimes they get full sooner than expected.
