In fact, every one of us probably remembers where we were and what we were doing on the tragic morning of September 11, 2001. It is an occurrence that is forever etched in our minds.
I was working at the Jefferson County Clerk's Office as the Director of Public Relations. On any given day my office television would play in the background as I sat at my desk working on one project after another. On this day, the television was not on.
I received a call from someone I had just recently met, and had a 12 noon lunch planned with her at Vincenzo's. She asked me if I thought we should reschedule. I didn't quite know what to think of her question; she obviously thought I had heard. When she told me that a small plane had struck the World Trade Center, I recall thinking what a horrible accident that was. But when she told me that a second plane had hit the tower as well, it felt like the whole world had turned upside down.
Susan and I decided not to reschedule. It was important for us to meet because we were to discuss plans for a Public Relations Society conference that we had volunteered to chair, and we had deadlines to meet. Little did we realize at the time, to cancel our plans and sit around in shock would be playing into the hands of the terrorists. The perpetrators --- murderers, would have loved nothing more than to see Americans shrivel up and stop living our lives as normal.
We arrived at Vincenzo's, and it was basically empty. The hostess, a woman named Paula, greeted us and showed us to our table. She was visibly upset, too. As Susan and I sat there trying to process what had just happened to our nation, Paula joined us. We talked and comforted each other as if we were lifelong girlfriends. We all had just met.
Paula (the hostess), ordered a glass of wine for each of us, and we ate, drank, vented, grieved and licked our wounds. While we were beside ourselves - basically down, we were not out. We were good for each other, and a bond formed between us. By our thoughtful conversation, we defined what is good, and pleasant, and caring about America, and established that we would not be moved.
Susan and I became great friends, and for 18 years on September 11, we have met for lunch at Vincenzo's (except for the year the date fell on a Sunday and Vincenzo's was closed --- we ate at another location that year). In the words of my friend, Susan Lindsey - an excerpt from her 2018 Facebook posting - "We catch up with each other, talk politics, and greet our friend, Paula Fisher. It's an annual reminder about the horror of terrorism and the ugliness that is sometimes world politics, but it's also about the power of friendships and rituals and caring people in this world."
What were you doing or where were you when you first heard the news about the terrorist attack? What do you do now on September 11? Granted, September 11th is not a national holiday, but it is a date that is memorialized, and all Americans should at least pause for a few minutes to remember those who lost their lives at the hands of terrorists, and those who lost their lives or contracted a deadly disease trying to save them. Whatever you choose to do, just vow 'Never to forget.'

HOW IT WORKS Restaurants and food purveyors will be providing Unlimited Mac and Cheese to VIP ticket holders from 12PM -2PM along with dishing out a variety of 2oz Mac and Cheese samples (sold in sample sheets of 10) from 2PM – 8PM. All food related items will work on a voucher system – there will be various voucher stations throughout the festival and all vouchers will be exchanged at each vendor for all food related items. Flutter by the Louisville Zoo for a day of unique hands-on fun celebrating the annual Monarch Butterfly migration. Enjoy 15 stations where you can learn more about the amazing monarch butterfly migration and why pollinators like bees and butterflies are important. A limited number of guests can become a hands-on citizen scientist by helping us tag monarch butterflies so we can track their long journey to their wintering grounds in central Mexico. Enjoy fun games and activities like buggy toss, caterpillar to butterfly matching game, and our crazy migration obstacle course! Create fun crafts that you can take home and enjoy year round. Brought to you in partnership with Idlewild Butterfly Farm.
Butterfly Tagging. Help us tag more than 1,000 butterflies (first come, while untagged butterflies last) and be amazed at the release during the festival. Tagging monarchs helps to track their migration and monitor their population. Some tagged in 2017 were located in Mexico, over 1,500 miles away!
Craft and Activity Stations. Children of all ages can play games and make crafts while learning more about monarchs and their long journey.
Education Stations. Visit stations to learn the importance of pollinators and what you can do to help them.
Meet and Greet The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Hear the beloved tale of a particularly hungry caterpillar and stick around after story time to meet The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
Butterfly Talks and Release. Join us as butterfly expert Blair Leano-Helvey gives a talk on the importance of pollinators like monarch butterflies. Then watch in wonder as the sky fills with beautiful butterflies during the release of over 1,000 tagged monarchs.
Pollinator Parades. Wear your wings and join the fun! Kids can join our special pollinator parade!
The festival features music, food, drink, over 100 vendors, a Family Zone, a Wellness Zone, and a Job Shop. And of course, crowd favorites will be returning like the Dance Dome and the Louisville Silent Disco! Bardstown Road will be closed from Grinstead Drive to just past Beechwood Avenue. Gates open at 11:00 AM and the event ends at 11:00 PM. Donations are accepted at all gates.

Theft from Automobile - There were a total of thirteen thefts from autos which was a decrease from the previous week (26). In two of the thefts force was used, two were by unknown means and nine were left unlocked. Please remember to lock your vehicles and take your valuables out of your car.
Auto Theft - There were three reported auto thefts for the week which was the same as the previous week (3). Keys were used in two of the thefts and one was unfounded.
Burglary - There were four reported burglaries this reporting period which was a decrease from the previous week (10). Two of the burglaries were residential and two were businesses. The method of entry is as follows: One was unlocked and force was used in three.
There were two reported Robberies for the reporting period.
1) On Sunday 9/1/2019 at 12:07am in the 2700 block of Lindsay Ave., the victim stated that suspects forced their way in the front door and pointed a gun at her. Subjects then took victims property, along with her boyfriend's vehicle. Vehicle recovered on University Rd. Suspects- Two white males, one tall, and one short. Both were armed with handguns
2) On Saturday 9/7/2019 at 12:30am at 3814 Frankfort Ave (Diamonds Pub) the victim stated that he was leaving the bar when two black females got out of their car and then jumped him. Suspects took victims property and fled scene.
