Dear Neighbor,
Welcome back to School! We hope you and your family are starting the academic year ready to learn and ready for some fun along the way. If you're looking for after-school activities, head on over to your local Louisville Free Public Library. We are lucky to have three within or near our neighborhoods: Bon Air, the just re-opened St.Matthews-Eline, and Newburg branches. Seriously, check them out.
Also, with the start of school, our office is increasing public safety funding to step up the number of LMPD officers patrolling at the beginning and end of the school day. Officers will pay particular attention to speeding near all the schools in and around our district. If you wish to report speeding, please contact our office or the LMPD's non-emergency line: 574-7111.
Thanks,
Brent T. Ackerson 26th District Councilman

- Be wary of people going door-to-door selling products on behalf of a charity.
- If you were one of the millions affected by the Equifax data breach in September 2017, you may file a settlement claim.
- Be careful when you are looking up company’s customer service numbers online. A quick internet search may bring up a phone number to a scammer instead of the real business.
- A Louisville consumer reported a suspicious postcard to BBB with a notice of “unclaimed rewards” for $100.
- Beware of loan scams.
- If you are needing to change your address, be sure you are dealing with USPS and not a “change of address” scamwebsite. If you need to change your address, contact your local post office or visit usps.com.
- Job seekers: beware of work from home scams!
- Do you use Cash App? Consumers are reporting unauthorized transfers and other suspicious activities through this mobile payment service.
- Don’t fall for calls from the “Medical Center”.
- If you get a call from the Microsoft support team, hang up!
If you do not have residential curbside recycling service or if you have too much for your bin/cart, we have free recycling drop-off locations around the county for your convenience. Some are staffed by Public Works employees to help with drop-off. Others are self-serve. Here's an interactive map of the drop-off locations.
What you can drop off:
Self-service and full-service locations
-
Flattened cardboard
- Paper containers and cups
- Milk, juice and soup cartons
- Newspapers/inserts, phone books, magazines, junk mail, office paper
- Plastic bottles, cups, and containers
- Glass bottles and jars
- Metal bottles and cans
Full-service locations also accept:
- Used motor oil and filters
- Used anti-freeze
- Used cooking oil
Do’s and don’ts
- Recyclable items at self-service locations may be mixed.
- They should be loose in the dumpster, not in bags.
- Items at full-service locations must be separated by material. Staff members will help unload.
-
No dumping. Take up to three large items to the Waste Reduction Center free of charge.
- No liquids/paints/oils/etc. in the Self-Service dumpsters.
- Flatten cardboard to save space in the dumpster.
If the dumpster is full, contact Metro311. The crews empty them on a schedule based on how long it typically takes to fill, but sometimes they get full sooner than expected.
St. Matthews Area Ministries (St. MAM) needs your help in stocking their shelves. Donations may be dropped off Monday – Friday between 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. The St. MAM entrance is under the carport on the backside of Beechwood Baptist Church, 201 Biltmore Road, next to the playground.
