Several people have contacted me about work being done in the right-of-way, including sidewalks, on the south side of Frankfort Avenue. Crews are installing fiber which will be used for Verizon service. The asphalt patches on the sidewalk are temporary and will be replaced with concrete as part of the final restoration of the impacted areas. Thank you for your patience as the work concludes!

Louisville Grows is hosting a Waste Audit Workshop on Tuesday, August 6, at the Healthy House, 1641 Portland Avenue, from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. This is a great way for individuals, families and organizations to get information on how to recognize and reduce their waste. The event is free.

We have just received notification that Solid Waste Management Services will not be mailing out a postcard with your bulky item collection set-out dates. Collection in the Urban Services District (USD) occurs three times a year. Below are the dates for D9. Mark your calendars!

Louisville Metro Department of Public Health & Wellness’ mosquito control program is in full force. The team has pretreated all MSD catch basins as well as all 305 historically known flood-prone areas. They also continue to trap and test mosquitoes for diseases and will continue this throughout the summer and implement fogging when necessary.
Public Health & Wellness continues to stress in their educational efforts that homeowners can also prevent mosquitoes by ridding their homes of standing water, a prime mosquito breeding ground. More information is available on their website, including ways to prevent mosquito bites and how to sign up for fogging alerts.
Dockless vehicles are power assisted scooters that can be checked out from a fleet without human assistance or going to a docking station. These find-and-ride vehicles offer a fun and easy option for getting around the city. But they can be dangerous if riders don't follow the rules. Here's a list of common sense dos and don'ts:
- One rider per scooter
- Must ride in roadways, and in bike lanes or bike paths where available
- Must not ride on sidewalks
- Keep to the right of the rightmost lane, except when making left turns
- Yield to pedestrians
- Offer the right of way to bicycles in bike lanes
- Obey all traffic laws
- When parking, do not obstruct walking area of sidewalk or block building entrances
- Wear a helmet

Apply now for the Center for Neighborhoods Neighborhood Institute. A free leadership education program designed to equip neighborhood leaders with skills and resources needed to initiate positive change in the community. Dinner is included. Meetings are every Tuesday from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. for twelve weeks at the Center for Neighborhoods Offices, 507 S. Third Street. Classes begin August 20 and run through November 5.
