Happy Fourth of July!

Happy Independence Day from the District 10 Council Office.

“We hope you and your family have a safe and enjoyable Fourth of July," Councilman Mulvihill said.

Metro Council Hall will be closed July 4.

Fireworks advisory

Air Pollution Control District issues Independence Day fireworks advisory:

As we celebrate Independence Day this week, the Louisville Metro Air Pollution Control District is reminding you that it is illegal in Louisville Metro to shoot off airborne and/or exploding fireworks in your yard or neighborhood.

"Excessive smoke from firework displays can impact people who are suffering from breathing ailments like asthma, emphysema, and COPD." said APCD Director Keith Talley Sr. "So please consider your neighbors before you light that fuse."

While professional shows – such as the Waterfront Park fireworks show on Thursday – are permissible, trying to replicate that experience for your family and friends at your home is against the law and may harm lives and property.

No fireworks

Please consider your neighbors

Fireworks can be triggering to veterans with PTSD, as well as people who have been affected by gun violence.

Dogs' ears are far more sensitive than ours, so they are often terrified by fireworks. July 5 is a busy day for animal shelters due to the pets who have run away during fireworks displays. Please secure your pets during the holiday.

Holiday waste collection schedule

Due to the Independence Day holiday, there will be no residential garbage, recycling or yard waste collection within the Louisville Metro Urban Services District (former Louisville city limits) on July 4.

The usual Thursday collections will be made on Friday, and the rest of the week will follow the same pattern of a one-day delay.

Residents who rely on private haulers for garbage, recycling and yard waste collection should consult those haulers about holiday collection schedules.

The Waste Reduction Center, at 600 Meriwether Avenue, all staffed recycling centers and the Haz Bin hazardous materials facility at 7501 Grade Lane will also be closed on July 4. They will resume normal operations on Friday, July 5.
