Old Henry Road Project Update

Residents in eastern Jefferson County may have noticed preliminary work beginning on the project to widen and reconfigure Old Henry Road. This project, approximately two miles in length, includes existing Old Henry Road and an extension connecting the road to KY 362 (Ash Avenue). This new route will consist of three lanes including a two-way left turn lane and one travel lane in either direction. The intersection with Factory Lane will be reconfigured as well. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has tentative plans to advertise this project for construction bids in July 2020. Construction is expected to take two years.

Mayor's Hike, Bike, & Paddle

bike

The 15th consecutive Mayor's Subway Fresh Fit Hike, Bike, & Paddle will be held Monday, May 27 at Waterfront Park. Activities will begin at 8:00 a.m. with Yoga, Tai Chi, Zumba, and Pickleball demonstrations. More than 50 vendors and information booths will open at 8:30 a.m. The hike, bike, and paddle events begin at 10 a.m.

There will be three routes for hikers, all of which travel along Waterfront Park to the Big Four Bridge and end back at the Great Lawn. All routes are wheelchair and stroller accessible. Dog friendly routes are available as well. The first 500 hikers will receive a 4-person or family free day pass to Abbey Road on the River, the Beatles-inspired music festival.

For cyclists, this year's 13.5-mile route travels to Shawnee Park and back to the Great Lawn. Cyclists may turn around at any point. "Bike doctors" will be at Waterfront Park before the ride begins to assist with any equipment problems. All of the cycling and walking routes will be marked with signage and will have water stops at the halfway points.

The paddling activity will begin at the Harbor Lawn in Waterfront Park and go upstream to Towhead Island. The Ohio River will be otherwise closed to traffic giving paddlers the ability to cross the river to southern Indiana and then continue downstream to the 2nd Street Bridge before paddling back across the river to the Harbor Lawn. The Louisville Kayak Company will be offering kayak rental services at the event.

Lawn Care for Cleaner Air Rebate

The Lawn Care for Cleaner Air program offers rebates on new lawn equipment to residents of Jefferson County. Proof of residency must be provided when purchasing new equipment or when submitting a mail-in rebate request to the Air Pollution Control District. Failure to do so will result in not receiving a rebate.

There are two ways to get the rebate:

  • Purchase your equipment, then use the rebate request form to request a standard or bonus (with trade-in) rebate. If your request meets all the requirements, you should receive your rebate within 60 days.
  • Participating dealers offer the rebates up front as dollars off the purchase price.
