 Did You Know...
Highland Park was originally built for railroad yard workers and quickly grew in size. In 1890, the Kentucky General Assembly made Highland Park a city. Highland Park was more than just a neighborhood: it was a self-sustaining city with a hardware store, furniture store, drug store, a confectionery, dry goods store, churches, post office, fire department, railway, street-car line, and even a saloon. It had great schools like James Russell Lowell, St. Leo, and a West Side School. Highland Park was home to iconic streets like Louisville Ave, Park Blvd, and Highland Blvd (now Adair St.) Highland Park's people are still a vibrant community today. Neighbors stay connected on the numerous Highland Park Facebook pages, sharing pictures and memories.
Our D21 "Image of the Issue" includes the Highland Park Mile Marker Dedication that took place on May 18. Special thank you to the KY Historical Society- Robert Shoffner, Wes Cunningham, and Stefanie Buzan for making this possible. The Marker is located at Park Blvd and Crittenden Drive, please stop by and observe a part of our history!
