 Per the PVA’s KRS statutory authority, they are re-evaluating the property values in Area 4 of Jefferson County this year, which includes Shively, PRP, and Valley Station. If your property value is reassessed this year, you will receive a postcard in the mail from the PVA which will be sent to all affected property owners on April 26th.
You have a right to appeal your property value reassessment. Those appeals must be made through a “conference” with the PVA by May 20th.

65+ Qualifications:
Property owners become eligible for the Homestead Exemption on their primary home beginning the year they turn 65, if they owned and occupied the home on January 1st. The exemption can be claimed on one property.

Disability Qualifications:
Property owners who have been declared totally disabled for the previous twelve months by the federal government or any public or private retirement system may be eligible to receive the Disability Exemption on their primary home. The exemption can be claimed on one property, and the applicant must have owned and occupied the home on January 1st. Additionally, parents of disabled children or legal guardians of disabled people may qualify for the exemption by placing the property in a legal trust for the benefit of the disabled person.
Many homeowners don’t know about these savings, so your help in spreading the word is very important.

Kentucky constitutional officers are on the ballot this year and the primary election is this Tuesday, May 21. There are contested primary elections for Democrats and Republicans.
Most of us in Kentucky can only vote on Election Day, from 6:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., at the precinct where we are registered. To help make a plan to vote, you can check your registration, including your party, and find your polling location at https://vrsws.sos.ky.gov/vic/.
Voters who will be outside Jefferson County on Election Day are among those who can vote absentee. More information about voting absentee can be found here.
If you qualify to vote by absentee ballot, you can do that by voting in-house at the Jefferson County Clerk’s Election Center, at 701 West Ormsby Avenue, Suite 301.

Legal Aid is there to provide much needed assistance for a critical situation, and further help in ultimately avoiding that experience.
Meals on Wheels
Southwest Community Ministries is looking for kindhearted, friendly people to deliver meals to home-bound seniors in the 40272 and 40258 zip codes.
Delivery takes about an hour weekly, twice a month if you prefer to deliver two days/month.

Below is a list of projects overseen by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet happening in Southwest Louisville.
US 31W (Dixie Highway) North: Lane closures and delays possible at Standard Avenue (mile marker 18.4) due to installation of a micro-trench for conduit and fiber optic cables. Right lane will be closed daily from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. This process will take several weeks to complete as crews progress north to West Broadway.
US 31W (Dixie Highway): Lane closures and sidewalk closures in place between Blanton Lane and Crums Lane (mile markers 12.5 to 15.3) due to construction for access management and bus rapid transit lines. Beginning Tuesday, May 7, left lane will be closed in each direction between Heaton Road and I-264 (mile markers 14.4 to 14.7) due to concrete median installation. Roadway is reduced to two lanes on southbound Dixie Highway between Blanton Lane and Upper Hunters Trace. Roadway is reduced to one lane southbound and two lanes northbound between Herbert Avenue and Crums Lane. In these areas where the lane closures are in place, the sidewalks are closed on the side where the roadwork is taking place. Pedestrians need to cross Dixie Highway at a signalized intersection and use the sidewalk on the other side of the road instead of walking through the construction work.

  Median Installation to Begin Next Week
MAC Construction has progressed faster than anticipated on curb and sidewalk work between Upper Hunters Trace and Heaton Road.
This means we will be able to start installing medians in this section next week (5/6), significantly ahead of schedule. We weren’t expecting this work to begin until June, but the teams have made significant progress in recent weeks as we’ve had better weather to work with.
Crews on The New Dixie Highway Project will begin installing medians next week between Upper Hunters Trace and Heaton Road.
By installing medians, The New Dixie Highway Project will restrict mid-block left turns – and guide drivers to turn at signalized intersections or designated U-turn points.
During median installation, the interior lane immediately adjacent to the work will be closed in each direction. Work will be happening in more than one location at a time. As one section is complete, work will move to a new section.
Medians will be “non-mountable” so passenger vehicles cannot drive over them. Widths will vary with available space, with landscaping at key locations. While it may seem counter-intuitive to drivers, restricting mid-block left-turns creates not only a safer corridor, but a more efficient corridor. While some drivers will have to drive slightly further to reach their destination, the improved efficiency and reduction in accident-related congestion will mean a better traffic flow for everyone.
About the New Dixie Highway Project
The New Dixie Highway Project is a $35 million investment to improve safety, mobility and livability along the corridor.
The project will concentrate on three major areas of improvement:

Roadway safety and design improvements, including raised medians and left-hand-only turn lanes (Crums Lane to Greenwood Road).
- A new Intelligent Transportation System that will improve and coordinate traffic signal timing along the entire corridor.
- The region’s first TARC bus rapid transit route, with eight priority buses and 37 highly visible bus stations and stops
