May 18 - Take the Metro Parks Summer Swimming Survey at Camp Taylor Park, other swimming pool locations

seeking summer swimming feedback image

Louisville Parks and Recreation is seeking information from current and future pool users in an effort to provide alternative swimming options during the 2019 summer swim season.

Metro’s four outdoor pools (Algonquin, Fairdale, Norton and Sun Valley) will not be opening due to budgetary challenges caused by an increase in the state pension bill and the council’s vote against new revenue. The goal is to use the feedback to create the most useful alternatives possible.

Saturday, May 18

  • Norton Pool (in Camp Taylor Park), 4201 Lee Avenue, 10 a.m. to noon
  • Sun Valley Pool, 6505 Bethany Lane 10 a.m. to noon
  • Algonquin Pool, 1614 Cypress Street, 1 to 3 p.m.
  • Fairdale Pool (in Nelson Hornbeck Park), 709 Fairdale Road,  1 to 3 p.m.

Swing dedication at Waterfront Park honors Maurice Stallard's memory

Memorial swing dedication
Watson - Stallard photo

Councilman Mulvihill was part of a group joining Maurice Stallard's family to dedicate a swing at Waterfront Park in his memory this week.

Pictured in the swing are his son, Maurice Stallard II, widow, Charlotte Stallard and daughter, Kellie Watson. Watson is Mayor Greg Fischer's Equity Chief.

In the top photo, Sarah Martin, Nick Lococo, Councilman Mulvihill, Jon Baker, Deborah Bilitski and David Karem joined the family for a photo at the swing, which is near the "Adventure Playground" at the park.

Stallard and Vickie Lee Jones were unfortunately and unnecessarily murdered in October at the Jeffersontown Kroger store.
