Louisville Grows invites you to their annual Seeds and Starts Sale on Saturday, May 11 from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. in the People’s Garden greenhouse, 536 N. 44th Streets. All the plants and herbs are started by volunteers in the greenhouse and sold for less than most commercial retailers.
This is a fundraiser to provide support to community gardens throughout Louisville. Proceeds from the sale go directly to the Community Garden Grant Program. For more information, please visit www.seedsandstarts.org.

Saturday, May 11 is opening day for one of Louisville's biggest and best farmers markets. The St. Matthews Farmers Market is open every Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to Noon at 4100 Shelbyville Road.
The market features fresh veggies, local meats, and hot breakfast! This Saturday, all your favorites will be on hand - Garey Farms Breakfast, Burritos, BBQ and more. Edible Louisville will be giving out magazines and Tim Laird will sample bourbon chocolate fudge and sign his popular Bourbon Country Cookbook recently launched with Chef David Danielson of Churchill Downs and Old Stone Inn, and famed photographer Dan Dry.

Spring is here and that means weeds are thriving! Help Metro Parks keep the parks looking tidy by pulling weeds around young trees. Volunteers should meet at the Mary T. Meagher Aquatic Center parking lot. Volunteers will work together to weed Crescent Hill Park and move to Irish Hill Park if time permits.

Let’s bike together on Friday, May 17, to celebrate the 14th anniversary of Louisville’s Bike to Work Day. The event includes Meet and Rides from local parks, including Seneca, Shawnee, Iroquois, George Rogers Clark, and the Big Four Bridge. Each ride has a Ride Captain and a set departure time, and attendees are encouraged to register. I’m registered to ride from the basketball courts at Seneca Park, leaving at about 7:15 am.
Those who register to ride will be entered to win a new commuter bicycle from Parkside Bikes. Fourth Street Live has arranged for free donuts, and Heine Brothers’ Coffee will supply free coffee in the morning for those that ride in.

New this year, the YMCA has offered access to their branches on May 17 to anyone registered for Bike Together Day. You will be able to go to the Y without a membership and take a shower before work! All eleven YMCA locations are participating

The Louisville Independent Business Alliance (LIBA) will host the 11th Annual Buy Local Fair on Sunday, May 19 from 12:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. at Louisville Water Tower Park, 3005 River Road. Presented by Louisville Water Company, admission to the Buy Local Fair is free and parking is $7 per vehicle, or free for bicycle parking.
The fair will host a variety of local businesses, musicians, artists and craftspeople, chefs, community organizers and farmers. All locally-owned independent businesses and individuals are encouraged to participate as vendors.

Kentucky Shakespeare announces the 2019 Shakespeare in the Parks tour. Their 6-actor, 90-minute production of Macbeth will perform on Sunday, May 19, 2019, at 6:30 p.m. in Story Avenue Park, 1519 Story Avenue. In the event of rain, the production will move to The Pointe, 1205 E. Washington Street. I partnered with White Clay some time ago to offer this free performance through a Neighborhood Development Fund appropriation.
Audience members are invited to bring their own chairs, blankets, and picnics for this free, family-friendly community event.
Another performance, sponsored by the City of St. Matthews, is scheduled for Saturday, May 11, at 6:30 p.m. at St. Matthews City Hall, 3940 Grandview Avenue. See the calendar listing for more details.

Metro’s four outdoor pools (Algonquin, Fairdale, Norton and Sun Valley) will not be opening due to budgetary challenges caused by an increase in the state pension bill. Metro Parks’ goal is to use your feedback to create the most useful alternatives possible.

The Louisville Bats are once again hosting Louisville Metro Government Nights. Community Involvement Vouchers are available for groups and organizations doing good works in the community. Tickets are available on the following Monday nights: May 27, June 3, July 1, August 26 and September 2.
Each voucher will allow two (2) people into the Preferred Seating Area.
