For the last 17 years, Councilwoman Barbara Shanklin has hosted Louisville Metro Council’s annual Black History Month Program. Each year every district selects one person from their community to honor them for their service, contributions, and commitment to their community. This year, District 2 will be honoring Gloria Moorman. Councilwoman Shanklin wants to recognize Mrs. Moorman for all her hard work and effort she has put forth to help make District 2 a better place.

Gloria’s career path has been one of community service, focusing on youth.  She has been a youth worker and Program Leader with the Jefferson County Detention Center, Youth Service Coordinator with the Office of Youth Development, Community Health Supervisor for Public Health and Wellness.

Her proudest and most dedicated form of service is when she became Administrator of First Neighborhood Place.  Gloria concentrated her energy on programs to motivate, mold and mentor young girls into strong, determined and devout young women.   Gloria is the founder of two Youth programs focusing on young women:  Young Like Us II and T.Y.P.E. (Teen Youth Program of Encouragement). These programs operate out of Jefferson County Public Schools.  Gloria is currently Chairperson of C.H.O.I.C.E. Inc.

Gloria attends Peace Presbyterian Church where she serves as an Elder, Youth Choir Director, choir member and past moderator of Presbyterian Women of Mid-KY Presbytery. Gloria has served as a board member of Alliance for Girls – Ky Child Now.
