As a part of Black History Month, the Louisville Metro Council hosts a program honoring outstanding individuals in our community. Councilman Kevin Triplett selected Sheila Pitts form the Nichols Meadow subdivision. Mrs. Pitts is pictured above between Councilman Triplett and Councilwoman Barbara Shanklin. Congratulations to Mrs. Pitts!
Metro Council has been handed an incredibly difficult task to determine a solution to a problem that has been escalating for years. We have to address our budget deficit now and for the foreseeable future, as well as keep our city up & running with the services that we’re accustomed to, and deserve to have. I am interested in hearing your thoughts on this matter. Therefore, I encourage you to join myself and Councilwoman Nicole George on Saturday, February 23rd at the Iroquois Library, 601 W. Woodlawn Ave at 10:30 A.M. after the Café Louie event.
ALSO:
Monday, February 25 – Special Budget Committee meeting at 4:30 p.m. Louisville Metro’s Chief Financial Officer Daniel Frockt will be making a presentation. The committee will also hear from two representatives of the Kentucky Association of Counties - Shellie Hampton, Director of Governmental Relations and Rich Ornstein, Staff Attorney, and from J.D. Chaney, Deputy Executive Director of the Kentucky League of Cities.
Thursday, February 28 – Regular Budget Committee meeting at 4:30 p.m. Public Hearing beginning at 6:00 p.m., at the conclusion of the regular committee meeting.

Signups for those wishing to address the Budget Committee on February 28 and March 4 begin one hour prior to the start of the hearing on the third floor of City Hall, 601 W. Jefferson Street. Speakers are called in order of signup and have up to three minutes to make comments. Written testimony can be turned in during the meeting and, occasionally, speakers are asked questions by the Committee members. To access the new page with general information, and questions and answers, on the pension contributions, possible reductions in Metro services and the proposed insurance premium tax, the public may visit https://louisvilleky.gov/government/metro-council-district-9/proposed-insurance-premium-tax-and-proposed-reduction-city.
Join Olmsted Parks Conservancy on Saturday, March 9 from 10 am to 12 pm in Iroquois Park to help restore this scenic reservation by removing invasive plants and cleaning up our urban park woodlands. Other projects might include weeding in landscaped areas, mulching or painting. Please dress for the weather with appropriate footwear. Tools, gloves and refreshments will be provided. Please register here. Hope to see you out there!
This annual program helps prevent low income residents of Louisville from being disconnected from utility services. It runs through March 29, or until available funds have been expended, whichever comes first. To schedule appointments by phone call 502-991-8391 or go online at louisvilleky.cascheduler.com. These signs are regularly and illegally posted on telephone poles and in the right-of-way of businesses and busy intersections. They clutter our streets and eventually fall down littering our roadways, sewers and environment. If you walk by these signs or live somewhere where these signs are posted, help clean up our community by taking them down and throwing them away.
