Central Park West Neighborhood Association Service Auction 2019

It's time again for CPW’s Service Auction. This our second Auction will be held at Conrad Caldwell House Annex on March 16^th. Doors Open at 6 p.m., Silent Auction bidding begins at 6:30 and the Live Auction begins at 7:00 p.m.

There will be auctioneers, bidding and the chance to take home wonderful items. The distinction lies in that this auction will auction services provided by members of CPW in addition to material items donated by CPW members, their friends, and family.

Services to be auctioned off are limited only by the imagination of the donor. Our neighborhood has a depth of skills, hobbies and expertise that is far vaster than any of us realize, and this auction allows us a chance to tap into that wealth to raise some money for the association.

No matter their age, everyone has the chance to volunteer of themselves to help someone else. And isn’t helping each other, the best way to make friends and a strong community we can all be proud of?

Although the donations have just begun, so far we have:

• A game night for 8 hosted by the Meadors. The evening’s festivities will include a choice of the most entertaining board games, a delectable dessert table, a scintillating signature cocktail, and general merriment.
• An old-fashioned pumpkin carving party with both regular and veggie chili, along with wine, beer, soda, and dessert October 27^th, 2019. Hosted by Peggy Muller. BYOP.
• Bird Gift Basket
• Ride to the Airport coming and going.
• A basket of bourbon

We need much, much more for this to be successful. Some examples of services you can auction:

• Auction off seats to a dinner party you host in your home! Or providing a dinner of your choice for up to 8 at the recipient’s home (you can provide entre and courses, but not liquor).
• Two or three hours of pulling weeds for someone up on the block!
• Start a bidding war for Aunt Mable’s cherry cobbler!
• Auction lessons teaching some unique skill to someone who wants to learn!  Learn violin or to read Greek!
• Artist can donate a piece of their work to the event!
• Two tickets to an event are always big sellers.

Professional skills can be put up for auction too! An accountant could auction off free tax preparation or a lawyer could offer estate/will preparation. Last year we had landscape design offered. It’s said that one man’s trash is another’s treasure, and we all know that to be true. If you’ve been holding on to things purchased or gifted to you that you really don’t have a use for, this is the opportunity to let those items find a new loving home. Home Décor, Kitchenware, Clothing and Accessories that have been gently used are all welcome for donation! Some examples of materials to consider donating:

• That amazing handbag you bought a few seasons ago, but have only used once or twice.
• The beautiful scarf your sister gave you that doesn’t match a thing you wear.
• Gift baskets of your favorite things, built around a theme.
• Handyman work

CPW is actively seeking donations from the neighborhood. It imperative for the success of the event for as many people as possible to donate whatever items or services you might be able to.

All donations will be eligible for tax deduction for those who donate materials and service! CPW will provide you with a receipt for your taxes for all the value of all materials and services that are donated to the cause AND for the value of anything purchased at the auction. That’s right purchasing anything at the auction will be donation to CPW and also deductible on your taxes. It’s a WIN-WIN!

CPW’s Service Auction fundraiser will be held March 16th from 6 pm to 9 pm at the Conrad Caldwell House. It is our hope that this event will continue be a successful fundraiser for our organization, but also into annual community event bringing the wider community together for congeniality and fun for a worthy cause. As always, funds raised by CPW go back into our community for preservation and improvement campaigns.

So let get this going strong! Start looking through those attics for amazing treasures and start thinking what service YOU have to offer someone else. Nothing is too small to make a different to someone else!

We’ll be sending regular updates. Donations will be accepted by March 10^th, but we hope to hear from you sooner, so that we can let everyone know what is being offered.

Louisville Grows: Greenhouse Volunteers

Come join Louisville Grows in the greenhouse as we get our hands dirty to prepare for our 2019 Seeds and Starts Sale! The greenhouse is nice and warm even on snowy days! Volunteers will be planting seeds, mixing soil, and labeling pots. Whether you are a gardening enthusiast or have little knowledge on starting seeds, you are welcome to volunteer. Make sure to wear closed-toe shoes. A water bottle is recommended. Louisville Grows will provide gloves and tools. We'll be sowing seeds and working in the greenhouse from February through May.   The plants you help start will be sold to the community during our annual Seeds and Starts fundraiser. All proceeds go directly to support our community garden grant program! $34 million mixed-use development planned west of Ninth

New acquisition will spur further economic development in west Louisville

Mayor Greg Fischer today announced the historic, long vacant warehouse located at 1405 W. Broadway has been acquired by the Housing Partnership Inc. (HPI) to be redeveloped into a $34 million mixed-use development.

“This historic building has been a visible commercial marker of the Ninth Street divide and represented blight,” said the Mayor. “I commend HPI’s investment, which will bring this property back to the commercial vibrancy it once was for west Louisville and will attract additional investments along West Broadway.”

Originally built in 1922 as the National Candy Co. Frank A. Menne factory, this property is on the National Register of Historic Places and has sat vacant for the last 30 years. Its redevelopment is a catalytic step in the transformation of the West Broadway corridor.

Partners in the project include Louisville Metro Government and OneWest, a nonprofit community development organization focused on driving commercial development growth in west Louisville.

“This is prime example of a partnership in which the public and private sectors work together to develop an innovative project that will benefit the community,” said Andrew Hawes, president of HPI. “The restoration of this property will activate a key space along one of the most trafficked corridors in the city, and will hopefully serve as a catalyst for future commercial and residential investment.”

“We are pleased to have been approached by HPI to partner with them on the commercial development of this historically significant property,” said Evon Smith, president and CEO of OneWest. “This project is directly aligned with our five-year strategic plan and is what we heard, through our year-long community conversations, that many residents want.”

The purchase joins the nearly $1 billion in investment taking place in west Louisville by companies such as Passport Health Plan and YMCA, both building new facilities at 18^th Street and West Broadway.

The project partners will meet with west Louisville residents to gauge interest in types of reuse and to understand areas of concern. The dates for the community meetings have not yet been set.

Significant changes coming to Kentucky driver’s licenses this spring!

Kentucky is making significant improvements to increase the security of the identity credential you rely on most through the Confident Kentucky initiative. Following a statewide rollout starting in March 2019 and ending in May, all driver’s licenses, permits and personal IDs will have new security features, arrive in the mail 5-10 business days after residents apply at their local Circuit Court Clerk’s office, will be moving to an eight-year lifespan and have new pricing. Once available in your county of residence, the next time you renew your current credential or if you are a first-time cardholder, you'll choose a credential in one of two new versions: standard or Voluntary Travel ID credential. Voluntary Travel ID versions have all the benefits of a standard credential plus they are federally accepted to board U.S. domestic flights and access restricted federal facilities once REAL ID enforcement begins nationwide on October 1, 2020. Documentation is required when applying for a Voluntary Travel ID, if you are a first-time cardholder or if you want a standard credential and your personal information has changed. Crime Mapping

First Division

Major Andy McClinton Andrew McClinton began his career in law enforcement on January 22, 2001 with the former Louisville Division of Police (LPD). As a patrol officer, he served in the former Sixth District (LPD) and First Division. As a detective, he served in the First Division Flex Platoon and in the Criminal Intelligence Unit. He was also a member of the Dignitary Protection Team for three (3) years. After being promoted to Sergeant in 2008, he served in the First Division, Robbery Unit, Professional Standards Unit and the Public Integrity Unit. In 2016, he was promoted to Lieutenant and worked in the Third Division and Administrative Services.  In 2017, McClinton was promoted to Major and commanded the Administrative Services Division. Major McClinton holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Political Science from Hanover College. He is a graduate of the Academy of Police Supervision at Eastern Kentucky University and the 136th Session of the Southern Police Institute’s (SPI) Administrative Officer’s Course at the University of Louisville. Major McClinton is married with two (2) children.

Second Division

Major Ryan Bates Bates began his law enforcement career in August 1997 with the Louisville Division of Police. He served in the former Second, Fourth, and Sixth Districts. He was also a member of the Street Crimes Unit and the Gang Squad. After merger, Bates served as a patrol officer in the First Division. He was promoted to sergeant in August 2005. He served as a sergeant in the Second Division where he supervised the mid-watch platoon, FLEX Unit, and Detectives Unit. In 2012, Bates was promoted to lieutenant and assigned to the late-watch platoon in the Fourth Division. He also served in the Second Division, where he supervised the mid-watch platoon and Division Resource Officers (DROs).   After being promoted to the rank of major, Bates commanded the Fourth Division. Major Bates served on the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team for 14 years. He served on the SWAT Team as an officer, sergeant, and lieutenant. He was appointed as the Assistant Commander in 2012 and Commander in 2015. Bates has also served on two (2) task forces which were created to address violent crime in the community. Major Bates is a graduate of Xavier University and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Business. He is also a graduate of the Southern Police Institute’s (SPI) Administrative Officers Course.

Fourth Division

Major Joshua Judah   Major Judah has been a police officer for 16 years, joining the former Louisville Division of Police in 2001. He served as a patrol officer all across Louisville, in neighborhoods ranging from Crescent Hill, Clifton, The Highlands, Downtown, Phoenix Hill, Old Louisville, Russell, Shawnee and Portland. He served as a detective in the Crimes Against Children Unit for three years, investigating physical, sexual, and internet crimes against children across Louisville Metro. He was promoted to sergeant in 2009, where he served in the 3rd Division in southwest Louisville. He was promoted to lieutenant in 2011 and served in the Chief’s Office and the 4th Division.   Major Judah was most recently the commander of LMPD’s Technical Services Unit, which encompasses all of LMPD’s technical projects. Examples of these projects include body cameras, in-car cameras, investigative software applications, in-car computers, and gunshot detection systems. Major Judah was also responsible for the Real Time Crime Center, which monitors LMPD’s nearly 200 surveillance cameras, as well as the Crime Information Center, which analyzes crime trends and provides strategic intelligence for the LMPD and its law-enforcement partners in the region.   Major Judah holds a BA in History from Centre College and is currently pursuing his Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Louisville. He was the recipient of LMPD’s Commanding Officer of the Year award in 2015. He is a graduate of the Academy of Police Supervision class 39 at Eastern Kentucky University, the 127th Session of the Southern Police Institute’s Administrative Officer’s Course at the University of Louisville, and the 263rd Session of the FBI National Academy.   Major Judah lives in Louisville with his wife Katie and their daughters, Miriam and Leah.

Health & Safety Administrator Assists the Senior Health & Safety Administrator with the development, implementation and administration of MSD's Health, Safety and Loss Control Programs in order to assure the optimum safety of MSD's employees. Develops and maintains positive support relationships with MSD management and employees, local industries, regulatory agencies, emergency response agencies and employer safety & health related professional organizations.

Senior Health & Safety Administrator Creates and enforces safe work practices, job sites and facilities throughout MSD. Prepares designated employees to respond to potential emergencies. Works as a partner with management to integrate practices that reduce risk of injury into operational procedures. Monitors for compliance and provides enforcement when necessary.

Safety & Security Investigator

Job Summary

At the direction of the Chief Safety & Security Officer, conducts investigations concerning customer complaints, thefts of MSD property and misconduct of MSD employees. Conducts accident investigations concerning MSD employees and equipment and advises the Vehicle Accident Review Committee. Assists with site and facility safety inspections. Performs other duties as assigned.   

Utility Trainee

Job Summary

Under direct supervision, performs physical, unskilled tasks associated with sewer and drainage maintenance. Must comply with Federal, State, Local and MSD requirements and regulations.
