Sustainability Story: Ginkgo Trees

Gingko Trees

We need more trees in Louisville. While Metro Council has passed a Public Tree Ordinance and asked the Planning Commission to come up with new rules for trees in development projects, non-profit groups and individuals are busy planting trees all over the community.

D9 resident Art Williams has helped the effort by starting ginkgo trees from seed and donating them to Louisville Grows.  Here's his comment on this great photo of Art, Kedrick "Ked" Stanfield, Louisville Grows' executive director, and the trees.

"I was delighted yesterday to donate my fifty 3- year-old ginkgo trees I started from seed in 2016 to the wonderful Louisville nonprofit Louisville Grows....  I'm confident Ked will find them good homes around town to help improve our environment, reduce the urban heat island effect, sequester some carbon and live long, hardy lives. And drop those beautiful golden leaves every fall."

Louisville Grows promised to make sure the trees end up in loving hands. Thanks to both Art and Louisville Grows!  You can find more about the organization here: http://www.louisvillegrows.org/.

We’d like to feature your sustainability story - a resident or business doing good things for the environment.  Riding the bus, bicycling, walking, gardening and more - our eNews will feature practices which can benefit all of us.  Send your story to Bill Hollander or Kyle Ethridge
