Don't junk that jack-o-lantern or trash that pumpkin. Instead, put pumpkins and other gourds in with other yard waste on your regular yard waste collection day once you're done using them as seasonal decoration.
That will allow us to recycle the pumpkins into compost to be reused in landscaping and gardening. It will help make Louisville look good and prevent the gourds from taking up landfill space. Pumpkins must be free of decoration other than coloring.
This program applies to residents of the Urban Services District (old City of Louisville boundaries). Customers of other Jefferson County municipalities and of private haulers should check with them regarding pumpkin disposal.
Yard waste is collected on the same day as recycling. To find the recycling date for a particular address, type the address into our Recycle Coach tool.
*Shade trees are generally medium to large sized trees that have spreading canopies (e.g., oak, maple, linden, elm), though smaller species like redbuds and serviceberries also fall under this category. Dwarf ornamental varieties will not be eligible. If you have questions about whether your tree is eligible for a rebate, email info@treeslouisville.org.
The incentive is available for flat or low-sloped roofs on residential and commercial buildings. Rebates are first come, first served. Read more about the program and apply
Louisville Metro is looking for someone to donate the large Christmas tree that will stand in Jefferson Square Park through the holidays.
“Just like most families preparing for the holidays, we’re looking for the perfect Christmas tree,” said Mayor Greg Fischer. “This is the main attraction at Light Up Louisville and it will stay up throughout the holiday season.”
The tree should be a spruce or fir, about 40 feet tall and well-shaped. The city will cut and transport the tree to its prominent spot across from Metro Hall at Sixth and Jefferson Streets. Anyone interested in donating a tree should call MetroCall 311 (574-5000). The tree donor will attend the Light Up Louisville sponsor reception as a featured guest of Mayor Fischer for the Light Up celebration.

The tree will be moved with the support of LG&E, Bob Ray Company and Louisville Parks and Recreation.
Light Up Louisville is made possible through the support of our amazing sponsors: LG&E, Louisville Tourism, AT&T, Ford/UAW, 106.9 Play!, Louisville Magazine, Outfront Media and WLKY.
