• Wednesday, October 31: The Churches of 2800 Frankfort (Crescent Hill Baptist (CHBC), St. Mark’s Episcopal and Third Lutheran) invite you to two celebrations of Trunk or Treat in the parking lots of St. Mark’s and CHBC and Halloween on Birchwood. Inside CHBC, get your photo taken, enjoy cider, coffee, popcorn and goodies for the kids. Event runs from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.

Edith Road has reopened after state and city testing confirmed that a clay cap installed as a protective layer over the old Edith Avenue landfill at Champions Park has not been disturbed.

The state Energy and Environment Cabinet and an environmental firm hired by the city took samples from the area earlier this month, which were then sent to two separate independent labs to verify there is no contamination and the site continues to be safe.

A contractor is smoothing out ruts and tracks left on the park grounds after heavy rain and flooding caused cancellation of the annual Bourbon & Beyond and Louder Than Life festivals in September. The gates around that portion will remain up while that work is being done.

Restoration work on the other sections of Champions Park is also underway.

Congratulations to D9 resident Debbie Deatherage on receiving the Rider-Shaw White Cane Safety Award for her tireless efforts to improve safety for blind and visually impaired individuals in our community.

This award recognizes a visually impaired citizen that has made a significant contribution to the community either on a local, regional, or national level.  Debbie has served the community in many ways, and currently serves as President of the Kentucky Council of the Blind.

The Kentucky Council of the Blind is the statewide affiliate of the American Council of the Blind in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.  With 300-plus members, a weekly audio magazine, a bimonthly newsletter, informative email lists, and eight local and special-interest chapters that each offer events, advocacy, information and referral, and peer support, KCB is reaching more and more Kentuckians with its message of equality, opportunity and independence.

The D9 office has received a limited number of free Louisville City FC tickets for the playoff game this Saturday, October 27 at 7:30 p.m. at Louisville Slugger Field. Louisville City FC will be playing Bethlehem Steel FC.

D9 households may request a maximum of four tickets. Tickets are available first-come, first served until they run out. Please click here to request tickets.

Tickets will be available for pickup from the D9 office on Friday, October 26. More details will be emailed to those receiving tickets after you submit your request online.

Learn more about solar options on the 2018 Louisville Solar Tour on Saturday, October 27 from 9:00 a.m. – Noon. The tour is being held in conjunction with the National Solar Tour held each year in October. Leaving from the Passionist Earth & Spirit Center Undercroft, at 1924 Newburg Road, the group will tour residential and commercial installations of solar arrays from various installers and a new and unique solar power installation at 4510 River Road. There will also be an opportunity to meet with solar experts and homeowners at sites that show how you can go solar at your home or business. There is a suggested donation of $5-$50 (workshop valued at $50). Transportation will be provided. Seats are limited and pre-registration is required.

United Crescent Hill Ministries (UCHM) plans to submit a development proposal to request a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) for 1815 Arlington Avenue, Case # 18CUP1088. It is planning to re-purpose the boiler building currently used for storage to become the food pantry for UCHM. The new space will provide a client choice model for food distribution for low-wealth families to choose their items for their family and their own dietary concerns. The current pantry is located in the UCHM property directly across the parking lot from the boiler building. On average, UCHM serves 140 to 150 households each month in the community.

In accordance with the procedures of Louisville Metro Planning and Design Services, you are invited to a meeting to discuss this development proposal on Wednesday, November 7 at 7:00 p.m. at UCHM, 150 S. State Street. This will be an informal meeting to give you the opportunity to review the proposed plan and discuss the proposal.

A proposed Ordinance dealing with Itinerant Vendors, Peddlers, and Solicitors is now before the Louisville Metro Council’s Public Works, Facilities, Transportation and Accessibility Committee. The ordinance would affect food trucks, among other vendors. The sponsors of the Ordinance are asking for public comment as the legislation moves forward.

The public may comment online by accessing a new webpage on the Metro Council Clerk’s Homepage that shows the current ordinance and the proposed changes, and offers a comment section.

The Public Works Committee has announced two public hearings regarding the proposed Ordinance. On October 30^th, all businesses that are currently regulated as vendors will be able to testify on the Ordinance. Each person will be given three minutes to make a statement and be available for questions by any committee members. On November 13^th, anyone else who would like to comment on the new proposal will be invited to speak.

Following those hearings, the Committee will begin its discussion on the Ordinance. Online comments will be taken up to Friday, November 16^th.

Louisville residents are invited to bring unneeded documents to be shredded and disposed of at a free event on Saturday, November 3, from 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Citizens can protect themselves from identify theft by bringing items to the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center, 1030 Phillips Lane.

Businesses may not participate in this event. All paper materials will be shredded onsite and recycled. The shredding services are donated by Shred-It.

On Friday, December 7, from 8:30 am – 3:30 pm, the 9th District office, in partnership with U of L Hospital and the James Graham Brown Cancer Center, will offer FREE mammograms at United Crescent Hill Ministries (UCHM), 150 S. State Street.  To make an appointment, please contact my office at 574-3908.  Mammograms are for women age 40 and over. There is no cost to eligible women without insurance.  Women with insurance will need to bring their card so a claim may be filed.
