I’ll be brief in my welcome message again this
edition because: a) our regular Streets, Development and Crime Reports are
fairly lengthy; b) the Highlands Management District and Bardstown Road Safety
Plan updates I alluded to last edition aren’t quite ready yet; c) I want to
emphasize a few key points about Our Money, Our Voice – our participatory
budgeting project; and d) I’m pushing a deadline here!
So, on Our Money, Our Voice:
- We are still seeking
$50,000 total so that community members like you will get to decide how to
spend $100,000 (instead of $75,000) of the public budget in each of Districts 8
and 6. To that end, our grant
application to the Humana Foundation’s Community Relations Program has been
selected to move on to the final round of review: Louisville Humana employee
scoring. The scoring takes place this
week and the outcome will play a role in determining whether we are selected
for funding. So, Humana
employees, please vote for Our Money, Our Voice!
- Idea collection has
officially started. Please save the
dates for District 8 Idea Collection Events: October 10th at the Highlands
Shelby Park Library; October 12th at the Belknap Fall Festival; and October 21st
at CycLOUvia. More information, additional
events and an online idea submission form are coming soon. To recommend a location for an idea
collection event – or to volunteer for Our Money, Our Voice – please click here.
- Finally, our next
volunteer orientation event is October 2nd, 6:00 - 8:00pm at
the Department of Public Health & Wellness, 400 East Gray St. We still need another dozen or so volunteers,
so please consider getting involved in this great experiment to build interest
in civic engagement and make city business more accessible, interesting and
participatory. Information about various
volunteer roles and responsibilities, as well as additional direct contacts are here. Thanks for your consideration!
