This newsletter’s theme
was planned to be Good News. So, while
the top story trending now in District 8 involves the controversy surrounding the historic former city
buildings at 1300 and 1306 Bardstown Road, I’m going to keep this short and get on to the positive financial picture, new
projects galore and neighborhood safety measures being put in place in the
Highlands instead.
I think I’ve made my
point abundantly clear in the media that mini storage, one Airbnb unit, retail
in six percent (6%) of the space and a patio is not what the city bargained for
when it sold the buildings to Louisville Sterling, LLC for $425,000 in 2016 – in
an off-market deal – and barring the delivery of a project substantially
similar to a “corporate headquarters, offices, brewery, microbrewery, retail
store, production facility, product test kitchen and/or tasting room,” Louisville
Sterling had no right to sell the properties to MS Bardstown Road, LLC
for $950,000 in March without the consent of (much less notice given to!)
Louisville Metro Government. The
situation is unfair, unjust and – unless remedied – not going to end well for everyone. There. To be continued. Now, on to the good stuff.
