This Wednesday, Councilman David Yates spoke to Mr. Matthew Bell, a senior at Fairdale High School and Mr. Justin Bunch a senior at PRP High School, whom are both Boy Scouts in Troop #51 working on their Eagle Scout project.
We know with your will power and determination you will achieve Eagle Scout very soon! Good luck!

A Louisville Metro Council member is pushing a plan he hopes will reduce the growing number of panhandlers on the city’s streets.
Communities have been wrestling with the issue since 2017 when the Kentucky Supreme Court ruled that panhandling is legal. Metro Councilman David Yates wants to get panhandlers off the streets by offering them paying jobs.
It is called the Better Way Program. Instead of giving directly to panhandlers, people would be able to donate, probably through an app, to a fund that provides odd jobs for those on the streets.
“Whether it’s cleaning up an alleyway, or weeds or, whatnot, I think there's pride in work," Yates said. "I think there's dignity in that."
Trained volunteers would pick up panhandlers, take them to job sites and connect them to resources.
“It will make us a stronger, better city," Yates said. "It will make us a safer city, and I think it will reduce those that are panhandling."

REGISTRATION FOR THE BRIGHTSIDE & PASSPORT HEALTH PLAN FALL COMMUNITY-WIDE CLEANUP IS OPEN
https://louisvilleky.gov/government/brightside/brightside-passport-health-plan-community-wide-cleanup
The 2018 Brightside & Passport Health Plan Fall Community Wide Cleanup is just around the corner on Saturday, October 20th! Last year's fall Community Wide Cleanup saw over 8,500 volunteers clean up our city and this year, we want to shatter that number!
We encourage all residents to take part in the Community-Wide Cleanup. The event is a great service opportunity for boy/girl scouts, sports teams, faith groups and community organizations. It could also be a corporate team bonding opportunity!
Cleanups are an integral part of Brightside's mission and without the help of volunteer groups, and many other volunteers throughout the year, Brightside could not achieve their goals of a cleaner, greener Louisville.
Neighborhoods can hold their own cleanups at any point throughout the year and we can provide gloves and bags for each Neighborhood Cleanup. We will work with Solid Waste Management to have the collected litter bags picked up. Give us a call at (502) 574-2613 or register online about two weeks prior to your event to schedule your cleanup and for information about getting supplies.
Thanks to each and every volunteer who supports the Brightside & Passport Health Plan Community-Wide Cleanup. We look forward to seeing you on October 20th. Thank you for your dedication – we can’t do it without you!

Louisville Parks and Recreation will be hosting seven
open house-style public meetings beginning September 13.
Director Seve Ghose said the meetings will not necessarily focus on a
particular topic but will give the public an opportunity to ask questions and
voice concerns.
“There’s always a lot to talk about with our department,” Ghose said. “We’re
looking forward to having a conversation and hearing the public’s ideas on how
we can improve what we’re doing.” All meetings will be held from 6-7:30 p.m.

 1) Protect
yourself from identify theft! Attend BBB’s FREE document shredding and
electronic recycling event on Oct. 6 from 6 am to 11 am at 12501
Shelbyville Rd, Louisville, in the Kroger parking lot. Bring up to 4 large
boxes or bags of documents for shredding. Accepted items for electronic
recycling include cell phones, PC towers, and laptops. Printers and
computer monitors cannot be accepted.
2) Don’t fall
victim to the car wrap scam involving Dr. Pepper’s name. A local
consumer was contacted by “Dr. Pepper” to wrap his vehicle in an
advertisement for them. He also received a check with instructions to wire
money to the “car wrap” company for the wrap.
3) Watch out for
the reshipment scam! This work-from-home opportunity claims to be
with Amazon and promises high income for little work, just simply repackage
products and mail them. You may be handling stolen goods or opening
yourself up to identity theft!
4) Does the number
on your caller ID look familiar? It’s probably not someone you know but a
case of neighbor spoofing. Scammers are using your area code and first
three digits of your phone number in hopes you will pick up the phone.
5) Don’t worry –
your Gmail account is NOT being shut down. This scam email is
targeting Gmail users and threatening to shut down their accounts unless
they click on a link and provide personal information, like their Gmail
password or social security number.
6) Local consumers
are receiving phone calls from “insurance companies” offering lower
rates on their car insurance. Scammers claim they can save you hundreds on
your insurance, but first they need your personal information, like your
social security number. Don’t fall for it!
7) Don’t fall for phony
Facebook posts! Whether it’s a dozen free doughnuts or $150 off your
next in-store purchase, many of these “coupons” are NOT from the real
companies. Instead of a deal, you may be giving a scammer personal
information.
8) If you’re
looking for a house or apartment to rent, beware of rental scams. A
local consumer lost $100 deposit on a property that wasn’t even available
for rent or purchase. Always be cautious if the “owner” wants you to put
down a deposit immediately.
9) Be on the
lookout for fly-by-night contractors. Someone may offer to give you
an energy audit, clean your gutters, or pave your driveway for a low price
since they already have work to do in the neighborhood. They ask for the
money up-front and perform shoddy work or just run. Check out companies at
bbb.org
first.
10) If you received
an email from your IT Department about an “urgent system update,”
don’t click on any links! A BBB employee received an email to download a
security update immediately or their account would be disabled. Never
click on links from someone you don’t know.
