Splash into history at the first ever Mellwood Interactive Art Show on Saturday, September 8th and Sunday, September 9th. The event will include live art, muralists, aerobatics by CirqueLouis, food, drinks, and 40+ vendor booths! Plus, a community art project that will be incorporated into the facility.

The Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness would like to share many ways residents can prevent or reduce mosquito borne disease:
What works to prevent mosquitoes?
- Eliminate all standing water:
- Change bird bath every 3-5 days
- Keep gutters clean and free of debris
- Pour out water from flowerpots and planters
- Don't let water stand in baby pools
- Repair leaky pipes
- Drill holes in tires or cover
- Empty water from buckets and other containers in yard
Other suggestions include:
- Wear long sleeves and long pants
- Apply insect repellant according to label instructions
- Utilize box fan to thwart mosquito flight/bite
- Keep doors and windows closed or erect screens
- Commercial Pesticide barrier sprays
- Residential pesticide sprays and mosquito dunks
What does NOT work to prevent mosquitoes?
- Bug zappers
- Mosquito plants
- Martin houses
- Bat houses
- Ultra-sonic devices
- Dryer sheets
- Skin So Soft

If someone close to you were very depressed, or having suicidal thoughts -- would you recognize it, or know what to do or say?
Far more people die from suicides than homicides in Louisville and we hope you will make plans to join a training on suicide prevention the week of September 9 - 15, National Suicide Prevention Week.
There are more than 80 free trainings on a proven suicide prevention technique being offered around our city. Anyone 18 or older can take the training. You need no health, healthcare, mental health or counseling knowledge to participate. The training, called Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR), helps participants learn the myths about suicide as well as warning signs, and includes how to give someone hope and help.
Anyone who is interested can visit QPRLOU.com to find and register for classes being offered all over the city. Please make plans to help prevent suicides by joining a training in September!

Louisville Metro Government’s Office of Resilience and Community Services is inviting the public to participate in a meeting to kick off Phase II of the Louisville Resilience initiative on Monday, Sept. 10.
The meeting will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Louisville Free Public Library’s Main Branch, 301 York Street, and will include the Louisville Resilience team, business leaders, educators, non-profit organizations, members of the faith community, and residents.
Louisville was chosen in May 2016 to join the 100 Resilient Cities initiative pioneered by the Rockefeller Foundation to help cities around the world become more resilient to the growing social, economic, and physical challenges in the 21st Century. Participating cities are provided with resources that include funding to hire a Chief Resilience Officer, expert support, access to a partner platform and a peer-to-peer network.
At the Phase II kickoff, participants will divide into working groups focused around four Discovery Areas identified in Phase I by residents and subject matter experts through community meetings, focus groups, interviews and an online survey.
The areas are: compassion and trust; resilience to trauma; financial capacity and economic opportunity; and the built and natural infrastructure to promote health and well-being. The working groups will identify specific actions recommended as a part of Louisville's Resilience Strategy. View the Phase II flyer for meeting details and other pertinent information.

The Spirit of Crescent Hill Award is given every year to the “Cheerleaders of Crescent Hill” and the 2018 recipients were recently announced. You may know some of these folks but if you do not, you will have the chance to hear all about them at the Crescent Hill Community Council meeting, held at the Peterson-Dumesnil House, 301 S. Peterson Avenue, tonight, Thursday, September 6th, 2018. Refreshments will be served. The presentation of the Awards begins about 7:15 p.m., following the regular CHCC board meeting, which begins at 6:30 p.m.
The 2018 recipients are: Taylor Mayer, Evie Wilkinson, Judith McCandless, John Nation and Ruth & Bob French, founders of the Louisville Academy of Music

Louisville Grows' First Annual Fundraiser will bring a series of feature length, independently produced films and shorts together for their first Up Up! Farm Film Festival on Saturday, September 15, from 7:00 – 10:00 p.m. at Holy Trinity Clifton Campus, 2117 Payne Street. Each film will explore questions of farmland access, rural livelihoods and the sustainability of people and place.
Pre-screening and intermission activities will feature booths by exhibiting partners. Each ticket purchased will be eligible for door prizes from local businesses during intermission. Refreshments will be available for purchase including Apocalypse Brew Works, Heine Brothers' Coffee and Tina's Fluff and Pop. Proceeds will benefit Louisville Grows’ tree plantings, community garden grants and Healthy House programs.

Water Botanical Gardens (WBG) is hosting its annual reGeneration Fair on Saturday, September 15, from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. This free, family-friendly and environmental fair will be located on the Butchertown Greenway behind the WBG site. Parking available at Eva Bandman and Karen Lynch parks.
Enjoy environmental displays and demos, arts and crafts, food, drinks, and music will be on the Butchertown Greenway along the eastern edge of the WBG property.

The deadline for registering to vote in Kentucky before the 2018 General Election is rapidly approaching and it’s easier than ever to do so.
Tuesday, October 9 is the last day to register to vote in the November 6 election. Kentuckians can now register to vote, and check and update their registrations online, at this website.
Voters who will be outside Jefferson County on Election Day are among those who can vote absentee. More information about voting absentee, both by mail and in-house, is here.
If you qualify to vote by absentee ballot, you can do that at the Jefferson County Clerk’s Election Center, which has moved to 701 West Ormsby Avenue, Suite 301, beginning September 24. Here’s the schedule:

The monthly CHCC meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. with the presentation of the Awards beginning about 7:15 p.m. Following the presentation, we will have a Q and A with our Metro Councilman, Bill Hollander.
