Louisville Residents Urged to Take Free Suicide Prevention Training September 9 - 15![]() Goal: Raise awareness, in part by setting a Guinness world record for number trained in a single weekLouisville Mayor Greg Fischer, community leaders from the Louisville Health Advisory Board, including a young woman who lost a loved one to suicide, today urged residents to help prevent suicide by participating in a free community-wide training event. They also established the ambitious goal of setting a Guinness world record for training the most people in a suicide prevention technique called “QPR” - Question, Persuade, Refer - during this year’s National Suicide Prevention Week, which is Sept. 9-15. QPR is a free 90-minute training designed for anyone 18 years or older. No specialized mental health care training or expertise is required. Certified trainers will discuss myths about suicide, identify warning signs, outline how to talk with someone who may be thinking about suicide and how to persuade them to seek help Free Community Celebration for Cancer Patients, Families and Care Givers September 7
Hearing the words “you have cancer” never stops being scary. Yet there is reason for hope. Cancer prevention, care and research are moving in a promising direction that has experts at Norton Cancer Institute planning a free community celebration this fall. The 2018 Celebration of Courage will be Friday, Sept. 7, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., at the new Norton Cancer Institute – Brownsboro, 4955 Norton Healthcare Blvd. It will feature food, live music from Junction Creek, and lots of family-friendly activities. It is open to all cancer patients —regardless of where they were treated —plus family members and care givers. The Celebration of Courage is a free community event, but registration is requested.
