Join Louisville in celebrating our famous son, the late, great Muhammad Ali, during the Second Annual “I Am Ali” Festival. When our hometown champion passed away in June 2016, the Louisville community shone brightly to the world with collective pride, compassion, and humanity. Last year, Louisville came together again to recognize this significant anniversary and to honor “The Greatest’s" life and legacy with exciting events and activities for all ages.
The 2018 “I Am Ali” Festival will mark the second anniversary of Muhammad's passing and will include local arts and cultural groups, performances and events, films, entertainment, and other activities throughout the city that connect with and reinforce Muhammad Ali’s great legacy as a global citizen, athlete, and humanitarian.
Local attractions, hotels, and restaurants will offer programming, discounts, and special Ali-related events during the 10 day festival, focusing on Ali’s giving spirit, humanitarianism, and his love for Louisville. A complete list of events and details is below.
The Reds Rookie Success League (RRSL), a free, coed, character-building summer baseball program, enters its sixteenth summer in Cincinnati and throughout Reds Country in June. The Reds Rookie Success League is an introductory baseball program for boys and girls who normally would not be able to afford this type of program. It features baseball instruction while focusing on a character-based curriculum and the "Six Stars of Success" - Cooperation, Integrity, Respect, Education, Determination and Spirit (CI REDS). for six weeks in Louisville. Each program features visits from Reds players and coaches, or Louisville Bats personnel.
In Louisville, two programs will be featured in June and July - a program at Wyandotte Park which returns for its eleventh year and a Reds Rookie Success League program taking place at Petersburg Park at Newburg Community Center.
Space is limited with each program capped at roughly 250 to 350 participants depending on location. Volunteers, coaches and mentors are also needed to operate each program. Louisville
businesses and residents affected by the severe storms and heavy flooding from
Feb. 21 through March 21, 2018, can apply for low-interest disaster loans from
the U.S. Small Business Administration, officials announced Wednesday.
The loans were
made available after the state of Kentucky on May 1 requested a disaster
declaration by the SBA, which covered Jefferson, Hardin, Breckinridge, Bullitt,
Grayson, Hart, LaRue, Meade, Nelson, Oldham, Shelby and Spencer counties in
Kentucky, and Clark, Floyd and Harrison counties in Indiana.
In Jefferson County, SBA’s representatives will be available at the
Disaster Loan Outreach Center set up at T.J. Middle School’s First Neighborhood
Place, 1503 Rangeland Road, to answer questions about the disaster loan program
and help individuals complete their applications. The center will be open from
10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 24, and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays.
(Closed on Memorial Day weekend). The Center will close on May 31st.
Businesses and private nonprofit organizations may borrow up to
$2 million to repair or replace disaster damaged or destroyed real estate,
machinery and equipment, inventory, and other business assets, according to SBA
Kentucky District Director Ralph E. Ross.
For homeowners, loans up to $200,000 are available to repair or replace
damaged or destroyed real estate. Homeowners and renters also are eligible for
loans up to $40,000 to repair or replace damaged or destroyed personal
property, according to the SBA.
For small businesses, small agricultural cooperatives, small businesses
engaged in aquaculture and most private nonprofit organizations, the SBA offers
Economic Injury Disaster Loans to help meet working capital needs caused by the
disaster. Economic Injury Disaster Loan assistance is available
regardless of whether the business suffered any physical property damage.
Applicants may be eligible for a loan amount increase up to 20 percent of
their physical damages, as verified by the SBA for mitigation purposes.
Interest rates are as low as 3.58 percent for businesses, 2.5 percent for
nonprofit organizations, and 1.8 percent for homeowners and renters with terms
up to 30 years. Loan amount and terms are set by the SBA and are based on
each applicant’s financial condition.

SBA’s secure website at DisasterLoan.sba.gov.
Businesses and individuals may also obtain information and loan applications by
calling the SBA’s Customer Service Center at 1-800-659-2955 (1-800-877-8339 for

A
fun – and free – family event will take place on the banks of the Ohio River in
southwest Louisville on Saturday, June 16 as Riverside, the Farnsley-Moremen
Landing hosts “Family Farm and Forage Day” from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event
will explore historic and present-day farming with a variety of children’s
activities, workshops, talks and booths.
Families can enjoy a milking demonstration featuring “Bluegrass Bessie” the
cow; a farm animal petting zoo; horse-drawn wagon tours, barrel train rides as
well as demonstrations on beekeeping, raising chickens, growing fruit trees,
forage crops and more.
Another highlight of the festival is the Jefferson County 4-H Fair Open Youth
Dairy Goat Show. The goats will be judged on adherence to breed standards and
their youth handlers will be judged on showmanship. Late entries will be
accepted the day of the show. The entrance fee is $5 per goat and champions

although a suggested donation of $5 can be made prior to tours of the

Summer meals are good for students' bodies, and healthier students are great for everybody. Kids get nutritious meals at no charge at any of the JCPS Summer Meal sites. You just have to be 18 years of age or younger and eat the meal at the site. (Adults are not served.)
JCPS participates in the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Summer Food Service Program. Meals are provided to all children at no charge and are the same for all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability; there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (May 22, 2018) - With the arrival of warmer temperatures,
KIPDA Area Agency on Aging and Independent Living is once again teaming up with
Louisville Metro Office for Aging & Disabled Citizens (OADC) to collect
electric fans for seniors and persons with physical disabilities. The
fans will be distributed to qualified individuals within the KIPDA region
including Jefferson, Bullitt, Henry, Shelby, Oldham, Spencer, and Trimble
Counties. Donations of new box fans will be collected through June 11 at:

On June 16, a “Fan Fair” will be held from 9 a.m.- 12 p.m. at the Edison Center located at 701 W. Ormsby Ave. to distribute the collected fans to seniors 60 and older, as well as to individuals with physical disabilities, on a first-come, first-served basis.

- OR documentation verified by a physician of a physical disability

Coinciding with the Fan Fair will be a health/resource fair open to all ages to provide various health checks and information from local area resources. Louisville Metro Department of Public Health & Wellness and LMPD will be on hand to facilitate a prescription drug toss so that attendees can properly and safely dispose of unwanted or expired prescription medications.

Program
2018 Camp Africa Summer Academic &
Cultural Enrichment Program June 4 –
July 20, 2018, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. The Catholic Enrichment Center is
located at 3146 West Broadway, Louisville, KY 40211. This seven-week program is
for youth grades one through eight. It will offer cultural and academic enrichment
opportunities in the areas of math, reading, writing skills, science, and more,
along with a cultural arts experience from an africentric perspective. The cost
of the camp is $350.00 per child for the seven-week experience. There is a
$50.00 non-refundable registration fee per child upon filling out an
application. The
$300 balance may be paid in two installments: at least $150.00 is due by
the first day of camp on June 4, 2018 with any remaining balance due
by June 25, 2018. A payment scale is
available for families with multiple children in the household. Breakfast, lunch,
and a snack are included along with great field trips and other enriching

Male Ministry
Fashion Exposition on Friday, June 15,

This adult event is an all male fashion exposition and is an implementation of the Male Ministry
Initiative of the Archdiocese of Louisville’s Strategic Plan. The
evening will provide a showcase of the latest in men’s fashion and accessories
modeled by men in the local faith community. It will also include music, entertainment,
heavy hors d’oeuvres, beverages, and more. The dress is semi-formal or business attire and the
cost is $20.00 per person. This is a major fundraiser for the Catholic
