Water is installing a new section of 12-inch water main along Gateworth Way and
Ellingsworth Lane. The new main will improve fire protection and overall
service reliability in the area. The project will require the closure of
Ellingsworth Lane from Blankebaker to Belmont Park Way for up to five days. The
project will NOT restrict traffic on Blankenbaker Parkway.
Work on
Gateworth Way may start as early as the week of May 28. We expect to close
Ellingsworth the week of June 11. Postcards were mailed to impacted customers
last week. We appreciate your understanding while we work to complete this
important project.

June 2018 Crime Prevention Newsletter
School is almost out, warm weather is here to stay, and as usual for this time of year we are seeing a marked increase in traffic complaints in our neighborhoods. As motorists we have to anticipate an increase in outdoor activities and people out and about enjoying the nice weather. Speeding and running stop signs are reckless and risky behavior. Our officers will be addressing these complaints with a higher presence. Citations and court costs are very expensive, but hurting someone due to negligent driving behavior will change lives forever. Slow down, make complete stops, and observe for pedestrians.
The Jeffersontown Police Department would like to remind everyone, once again, to remove all valuables from your vehicle and lock your vehicle doors. We are being inundated with reports of vehicles being broken into and rummaged through in multiple neighborhoods. This is an issue that can be prevented by removing anything of value from inside the vehicle, and securing the doors. Thieves typically do not forcefully enter a vehicle unless they can see something inside that they want. By removing valuable items and locking the doors, the thief will move on to an easier target.
Scammers and Scoundrels
In this month’s issue I want to address the scam of online loans. This is a common scam because we all run into hard times and need quick cash to get us through the rough patch. There are plenty of fake loan company websites that are ready to take your money away, creating an even bigger problem for your finances. Most of them require fees in advance, and once the “fees” are paid, the “lender” disappears leaving you in greater debt. ALWAYS, before applying for a loan in person or online, do careful research of the company. Make sure it is legitimate and reputable. Look it up in the BBB Business Profile. Lenders will not require you to pay a fee for filing, administration, legal fees, or insurance prior to approval for the loan. Any costs associated with the loan are included in the loan amount, and not paid upfront. If you are being asked to pay fees in advance, consider that this is a scam company.

Toll rates are updated every year
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (June 5, 2018) – New toll rates for the three tolled bridges connecting Louisville and Southern Indiana begin July 1, 2018. The 2.5 percent increase is the first rate increase for RiverLink, the tolling system for the Ohio River Bridges Project.
Tolling, a bi-state effort between Indiana and Kentucky, started Dec. 30, 2016. Toll rates increase annually by 2.5 percent, unless the rate of inflation (as measured by the Consumer Price Index) is higher. Tolls increase every July 1, beginning in 2018. There was not an increase in 2017 because tolling had been in place for less than a year.
The new toll rate for a passenger vehicle with a prepaid account and transponder is $2.05 per crossing. The current toll rate is $2 per crossing.
Drivers with prepaid accounts and transponders pay the lowest toll rates. With the new rates, the savings will be more than $2 per crossing. Account holders must maintain a positive account balance to pay the lowest rates and avoid invoices. The easiest way to always have an account in good standing is by choosing auto-replenishment and linking the account to a valid payment method.
RiverLink is all-electronic tolling, with no stopping, no slowing, no lines and no coin machines. New toll rates range from $2.05-$12.30, depending on the size of the vehicle. Tolling is in place on the I-65 Abraham Lincoln Bridge, I-65 Kennedy Bridge and SR 265/KY 841 Lewis and Clark Bridge connecting Prospect, Ky. and Utica, Ind.
