The four outdoor pools operated by Louisville Parks and Recreation will open for the season on Saturday, May 26. The Algonquin, Norton, Fairdale and Sun Valley Park pools will be fully staffed with lifeguards,
Admission is $2 for children 17 and younger and $3 for adults 18 and over. Photo identification is required for anyone age 9 or older; children 8 and under must be accompanied by a guardian 12 or older with photo identification. Families receive significant discount for the holiday
weekend. Louisville Parks and Recreation is offering an affordable family
golfing package at its ten golf courses during the Memorial Day Weekend.
For only $25, a family of up to four members can play nine
holes at any Parks course. The $25 includes greens and cart fees, and families
can take advantage of the deal after 4:30 p.m. on three days: Saturday, May 27,
Sunday, May 28 and Monday, May 29. Families
are encouraged to call in advance to book a tee time at the golf course of
their choice. Louisville Parks and Recreation golf courses are open from daylight
to dark seven days a week.

The Subway Fresh Fit Hike, Bike & Paddle is a twice annual event held every Memorial & Labor Day. This years event will take place on May 28th from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Thousands of participants flock to Waterfront Park to enjoy a morning full of fun. Bring the entire family for this free, healthy community event. Various fitness demonstrations start the day including yoga, tai chi and zumba. There are numerous vendor booths available for information and giveaways. After all of that, take your pick from a 5k hike, 12.5-mile bike ride or a paddle on the Ohio River. This event is not a race. It is open to participants of all levels and we encourage everyone to get out and enjoy the festivities!

The Subway Fresh Fit Hike, Bike & Paddle takes place at Waterfront Park's Great Lawn. The hike and bike starts on the Great Lawn at E. Witherspoon Street. Paddlers will put in at Harbor Lawn at the water's edge which is next to the Great Lawn.
The Louisville Metro Parks and Recreation department is looking to hire additional staff for the pools this summer. The department will be hosting a lifeguard training course for those who are interested from 4-9 p.m. Monday, May 21 to Friday, May 25.
The course will take place at the Mary T. Meagher Aquatic Center in Crescent Hill Park. Those who take the course and become certified will have all course fees waived if they commit to working at a Louisville Parks and Recreation pool for one year. Lifeguards will be paid $10.50 per hour.
Prerequisites for Lifeguard Training
The following are prerequisite skills for lifeguard training; you will be asked to perform these skills on the first day of class.
- Swim 300 yards continuously-- 100 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, and 100 choice of freestyle or breaststroke.
- Tread water for two minutes no hands.
- Swim 20 yards and surface dive 10 feet retrieving a 10-pound brick. Once swimmer has retrieved brick then the swimmer must swim 20 yards on their back while holding both hands on the brick to the original starting point.
- The swimmer must exit the water without using a ladder or steps. This prerequisite must be completed in 1 min and 40 seconds.

From June 11 through August 3, Louisville Parks and Recreation is offering summer camps at six of its twelve community centers. Registration is now available for all Community Center camp locations. LOUISVILLE, Ky. (May 22, 2018) - With the arrival of warmer temperatures,
KIPDA Area Agency on Aging and Independent Living is once again teaming up with
Louisville Metro Office for Aging & Disabled Citizens (OADC) to collect
electric fans for seniors and persons with physical disabilities. The
fans will be distributed to qualified individuals within the KIPDA region
including Jefferson, Bullitt, Henry, Shelby, Oldham, Spencer, and Trimble
Counties. Donations of new box fans will be collected through June 11 at:

- WLKY Studio, 1918 Mellwood Ave. (Lou, KY 40206)
Drop off hours are Monday through Friday; 9 a.m.- 4 p.m.

On June 16, a “Fan Fair” will be held from 9 a.m.- 12 p.m. at the Edison Center located at 701 W. Ormsby Ave. to distribute the collected fans to seniors 60 and older, as well as to individuals with physical disabilities, on a first-come, first-served basis.
Qualifications to receive a free fan will be:
- Person 60 years or older
- OR documentation verified by a physician of a physical disability
- Must be a resident of Jefferson, Oldham, Henry, Shelby, Spencer, Trimble or Bullitt Counties
- Proof of address and age will we required
- One fan per household
Coinciding with the Fan Fair will be a health/resource fair open to all ages to provide various health checks and information from local area resources. Louisville Metro Department of Public Health & Wellness and LMPD will be on hand to facilitate a prescription drug toss so that attendees can properly and safely dispose of unwanted or expired prescription medications.

Camp Africa Summer
Program
2018 Camp Africa Summer Academic &
Cultural Enrichment Program June 4 –
July 20, 2018, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. The Catholic Enrichment Center is
located at 3146 West Broadway, Louisville, KY 40211. This seven-week program is
for youth grades one through eight. It will offer cultural and academic enrichment
opportunities in the areas of math, reading, writing skills, science, and more,
along with a cultural arts experience from an africentric perspective. The cost
of the camp is $350.00 per child for the seven-week experience. There is a
$50.00 non-refundable registration fee per child upon filling out an
application. The
$300 balance may be paid in two installments: at least $150.00 is due by
the first day of camp on June 4, 2018 with any remaining balance due
by June 25, 2018. A payment scale is
available for families with multiple children in the household. Breakfast, lunch,
and a snack are included along with great field trips and other enriching
experiences. Applications are currently being accepted and space is limited. For

Male Ministry
Fashion Exposition on Friday, June 15,
2018, 7:00 p.m. in the Catholic
Enrichment Center’s Thea Bowman Hall, 3146 West Broadway, Louisville, KY 40211.
This adult event is an all male fashion exposition and is an implementation of the Male Ministry
Initiative of the Archdiocese of Louisville’s Strategic Plan. The
evening will provide a showcase of the latest in men’s fashion and accessories
modeled by men in the local faith community. It will also include music, entertainment,
heavy hors d’oeuvres, beverages, and more. The dress is semi-formal or business attire and the
cost is $20.00 per person. This is a major fundraiser for the Catholic
