 WATERWAY PROTECTION TUNNEL
MSD
is about to begin a two-year construction project at River Road, Seventh and
West Washington Streets. The work includes boring into the ground and building
a drop shaft that will connect to the Waterway Protection Tunnel.
During this time, a
portion of River Road and West Washington Street will be closed to through
traffic. We know this is an inconvenience, so we have made alternate routes to
businesses and parking available.
The Waterway
Protection Tunnel will prevent millions of gallons of sewage from entering
Beargrass Creek and the Ohio River. During excessive rainfall, the tunnel will
store sewage and stormwater for treatment until system capacity is available.

Andrew
Held, president of Chef Space and Jessica Morgan of Community Ventures, stopped by for a visit with Councilwoman Sexton
Smith and shared three exciting initiatives coming our way in the beautiful
Russell Neighborhood. Stop by Chef Space at 18th and Muhammad Ali Blvd for a
sneak peek - soon!

To all whom these letters shall come, Greetings:
Know ye the Louisville Metro Council hereby issues this proclamation honoring
Lampton Baptist
Church
152nd
Church Anniversary
Whereas, in 1866 Spencer Taylor, a carpenter, organized the Caldwell Street
Baptist Church and led services out of his carpentry shop, located at the intersection of Preston,
Jackson, Breckinridge and Caldwell Streets; and
Whereas, at a later date the Lampton Street Baptist
Church building was completed by world famous
architect Samuel Plato a graduate of
Simmons College of Kentucky; and
Whereas, when the National Baptist Convention was held in Louisville
in September 1928, the assembly of women at the Lampton Street Baptist Church
was seriously urged by Nannie Burroughs to
vote; and
Whereas, under the leadership of Pastor Robert Lyons, the church
successfully moved to its new location at 1121 South Clay Street and its future
is limitless.
Now,
therefore be it resolved that the Louisville Metro Council, we hereby honor Lampton
Baptist Church on its 152th church
anniversary for its countless contributions to the community by way of this
proclamation with all rights, privileges and responsibilities thereunto
appertaining. In testimony, we have caused these letters to be made and the
seal of the City of Louisville to be hereunto affixed.
Louisville, Kentucky April 29, 2018
Honorable Barbara Sexton Smith
Fourth District Councilwoman

The south side parking lane on Main Street between Fourth and Seventh streets will be closed to traffic and pedestrians — beginning April 12th until further notice. MSD has closed four feet of the sidewalk and the parking lane for our safety. The 60 year old damaged 84-inch in diameter sewer pipe carries approximately 40 percent of the
wastewater flow generated in Jefferson County. Expert inspectors are concerned that corrosion caused by sewer gases in the pipe could cause another cave-in in this area. Plans for this critical repair are being finalized and the required work will be soon. Please visit MSD's website at LouisvilleMSD.org/WestMainRepair
for developing information.
