President James Marks National Youth Violence Prevention Week

National Youth Violence Prevention Week

This year, National Youth Violence Prevention Week comes at a moment of nationwide unity against youth violence, which threatens two of every three American children and causes half of all homicides in Louisville. As a nation, we were appalled by the school shootings in Parkland, Florida and Marshall County, Kentucky; as a city, we grieve our losses from another record year of homicides. Enough is enough.

National Youth Violence Prevention Week has brought community leaders, organizations, city government, and over thirty-three thousand youth from across Louisville together to promote inclusion and prevent violence. Young leaders have planned over a hundred activities, trainings, art projects, and other anti-violence campaigns, equipping Louisville's youth with vital strategies to stop violence before it happens.

At the Metro Council, we're committed to supporting our youth in their struggle against violence. We're proud to see our next generation of leaders take up the struggle for peace. They're striving to make our city safer, to free our most vulnerable from fear, and to allow every youth to reach their God-given potential.
