In the past, in this space, I’ve provided periodic,
anecdotal “Strategic Plan Updates” to pique your interest in what I’m working
on and, ideally, encourage your participation.
This is something different. This
is an exercise in transparency and accountability. It is also an effort to improve performance. This is the Office of
Internal Audit’s District 8 – CY17 Performance Data Analysis and
Reporting Report. (Hey, it’s not the Office of Catchy Titles; give them a break.)
Last fall, I asked OIA to review the decisions I
made and the actions I took in my first year as a Metro Council Member, as a
way to conclude my own “self-onboarding,” and to give me a planning tool for this
year. In addition to assigning health
rankings to my Strategic Plan components at the end of Year 1 – including highlighting
for me where I’m off track – the report provides helpful insights into my
financial and communication systems, and it paints a picture of what’s going on
at the street level, in terms of District 8’s service needs and the delivery of
same. I’m still digesting the report
myself but I’m eager for any feedback you might have. What can you glean from it?
Some might say managing one’s political office like
an organization is strange, but to me it just makes sense. In fact, you might say I don’t find it audit all. (Get it!? We’ll create some metrics around bad jokes
next year.)
Special welcome message
shout-out to Internal Audit Director May Porter, Manager Jason Byrd and Auditor
Brandon Booth for consulting with us on this project!
