When you give your dollars to Dare to Care Food Bank, you know that with more than 250 nonprofit partners, the organization will use creative ways to deliver food, and target those who need it the most across our community.Dare to Care’s partnership with Metro Parks and Recreation Community Centers is one such joint venture that is of significant value to families, according to Ben Johnson, Assistant Director at Louisville Parks and Recreation.
“What we do is serve hot meals for kids in partnership with Dare to Care’s Kids Cafe. We serve these nutritious meals after school at 11 of the Metro Parks Community Centers, including Baxter, Beechmont, Berrytown, Camp Edwards, Portland, Newburg, Park Hill, Shawnee, South Louisville and Southwick community center sites,” said Johnson.
Beyond the Metro Park Community Center Kids’ Café sites, Dare to Care also serves an additional 23 Kids Café after-school sites such as St. Vincent DePaul and Boys and Girls Clubs. More than 50 mobile pantry deliveries a month are made to assist neighborhoods in high need. The Backpack Buddy program provides food to at-risk children at 42 elementary schools, and Dare to Care is now piloting a program that partners with primary care providers and pediatricians to make food available on site at their offices.

Louisville Metro Office
of Resilience and Community Services (RCS) launched "Am I Eligible",
a new online screening tool for Louisville residents. “Am I Eligible”
invites individuals to complete a brief online survey to determine which RCS programs and services are available to them. This tool is featured on the RCS homepage at https://louisvilleky.gov/government/resilience-and-community-services
or can be accessed at https://amieligible.louisvilleky.gov/.
Survey participants are asked to answer questions related to household size and monthly income; whether or
not there are children present in the household; is there a disability; as well
as what programs are of interest.
Based on the answers to the
questions, participants receive a customized list
of programs and services for which they may be eligible including educational scholarships,
housing and financial assistance, help starting a microbusiness, assistance
with budgeting or opening a bank account, and more.
“Am I Eligible”
can be completed anonymously or participants have the option of submitting their
name, contact information as well as selecting a Neighborhood Place most
convenient for them. An RCS staff member assigned to the designated
Neighborhood Place will then contact the participant by phone or email for
further follow-up.
